I have had two teachers tell me they want my child on meds for add. His doctor refuses to test him b/c she says he his too young. My son is 6 and in the 1st grade. What should I do?

what ever you do keep that doctor he sounds like he knows what he is doing.some kids just have a lot of get up and go in them. i bet your son just hates being in side the house.loves to be out side playing and exploring hall the things there are to see.i am not a doctor but i am a father with grown up kids.my boys were little shockers when in side on wet days and you could not ask for better kids when able to play and explore.

If I were you I would seek a second opinion. Six years old is a little on the young side, however it's not too young, especially for someone who specializes in children. My daughter has ADD and had a terrible time in school until, right at 8 years old, I finally took her to the doctor to have her checked and tested for ADD. She was diagnosed with ADD and put on Adderall XR. It did wonders for her, however it has taken years to get her "up to speed" in school because she missed so many of the essential basics in school. On the bright side, she's now 12 years old and is excelling in school. She's making excellent grades and now no longer needs medication to concentrate and do well. Like many kids, she has "outgrown" ADD with the onset of puberty.

If the child truly has it I think it would be best

My cousin was diagonosed at the age 4. He has a severe case of adhd. Before he was diagnosed he was banging his head on walls...hard..made himself bleed, and couldnt sit still. He was constantly moving even in his sleep. At one point they thought he had that shaking disease (what is the name of that) because of how much he moved and the way he moved. At almost 5 after almost a year of tests they decided to try him on that medicen. It worked. He is now 13 and you can tell when he isnt on his medication. I know tons of people who have had teachers tell them that they think their child has adhd...in most cases there is absolutly nothing wrong with the child. Do YOU feel like your son has adhd? IF you feel that he is overly active, or cant concentrate, then you should get another oppinion. That is just my opinion.

I think that teachers are just pushing everything on some type of lable because they just can't handle the work ! I think they thought that being a Teacher would be an easy job! that is why they want to lable every child differently! They just don't understand that it sticks with the child for life and that some take advantage of it !

I agree with you on that
