My job is requiring COVID vaccine now

I work for the government, and maybe this is not new, but they announced this week that if you work ON SITE, you are required to either be fully vaccinated OR get covid tested (and a negative test) EVERY WEEK and present it to your manager. If you are fully vaccinated (and prove it with the card), there's no need to be tested weekly. I am really surprised my job is doing this. To be honest, while I am pro-vaccine - I don't feel like it really impacts ME if my co-workers are not. Does it? I have talked to a lot of different people about this, and different people give me many different opinions on the matter. Some have said GOOD! Others have said - facism! Not right! Etc. Where do you weigh in on this? Is your job or any other place you frequent requiring them?

It may run out of quota, currently vaccinations are limited and if you are late then you will not get the vaccine.

@miftha Try to come early to the vaccine site, but if the queue is long, you can cancel and come back another time.

Even if you have the vaccine, you may still get COVID from others, just not as badly. But who knows what the long-term consequences are?

We're required to be vaccinated to be able to return to work here. Also, the test need to be done once every two weeks.

No, we don't require it at present but we may be in the future and that's a good move to stop spreading the virus.

I hear there are many jobs requiring it now. Seems like if you want to eat you have to do it. But I wonder if they require it from those that get food stamps? It seems to me, if you are going to require it from productive citizens you should from the unproductive as well. I do not agree with the requirement we are a free country.

@thedevilinme I see. That is a concern. Also a surprise - even my own doctor doesn't seem to know my medical history!

I really think it depends on the job and the reasons for the requirement. There are already businesses and industries (health is the usual one) where certain tests and vaccines are required. I also work for government but I work from home so it wouldn't make sense for them to require anything like that! For those working in the office, especially those on the front desks interacting with multiple different members of the public each day, I could understand if they asked for them to be vaccinated.

In my country while vaccine is volontary the government strongly advises in favor of vaccines. My personal feeling is that people should receive the vaccine to maybe beat the covid.

As of yesterday, China had inoculated 1.9 billion doses of COVID vaccine,I have got my second doses of vaccine two month ago. everyone around me has finished inoculated, or at least one dose, too. In my opinion,we should actively cooperate with the government's prevention countermeasures.

It is part of the social contract. I think it is not only your right but you responsibility to get vaccinated, and why some people wanto play politics with their lives and those of others is beyond me.

I get disability and don't work. At least not for an employer. I work for myself doing tasks online. That's my "job". It doesn't require COVID testing or vaccination. Depending on the job, I could see a vaccionation record being needed. Every year we had to get TB tested (if we could) or if not, get a chest x-ray done every five years. We still had the right to refuse, as there's no law saying a business can force anything on you, but with COVID, places have no problem firing you, if you don't comply. Well.... not necessarily true. Some places might threaten it, but can't afford to lose the employees they already have. Okay, so I got distracted. If you work closly with people, school, hospital, nursing home, then I can see and understand the requirment. But considerations should be made for those who might be alergic to the vaccine, are vaccine resistant (can't get ANY vaccine) and so on. Weekly testing is only going to inflate numbers. Every test counts as a new case, reguardless if it's possitive or negative. So, that should not be a thing, because that'll only cause more problems. Test someone enough, for example, it's eventually going to switch to either positive or negative because there's a thing called false rate...

If the vaccine is not FDA approved — and it isn’t — then I don’t see how anyone can be forced to take it.

this is the government's most effective strategy, asking workers through their companies to be vaccinated, it can also be said that this is forced voluntarily because many companies make vaccines as the standard of work, otherwise there may be mutations for workers. we certainly don't want that to happen but even so the goal is good, so that we all take care of our health
