Rainy day comfort food?

I don't know about you, but when it's raining outside, I just have this craving for a nice and savoury comfort food.
So that's what ended up on our lunch plates today - white rice with chicken in black pepper gravy, made by yours truly.
Black pepper is just one of those superstar spices that never gets old in my kitchen, simply because I always use it up before it even gets a chance to get old and bland - unlike the poor cinnamon and cloves that many times go past their prime and don't often get to be at centre stage in my cooking.
I just love that earthy zing that black pepper gives to food.
Do you have a comfort food for a rainy day?
How often do you use black pepper in your cooking?

@LadyDuck I do too. Black pepper is one of the most frequent ones I use. I use it more often than white pepper.

Somehow rainy days make me want to eat certain types of food more than others! I use black pepper in many dishes.

Thanks! Fritters are nice, we like to have them too. What sort of fritters do you make? Here banana fritters are very popular.

That plate looks appetizing. Am peppery also when it comes to cooking comfort foods like chicken congee or chicken steak. What other ingredients did you have in that chicken dish? Soy sauce?

Yes I marinate the chicken first with soy sauce and oyster sauce. The black pepper I blend with onions, garlic and a little bit of ginger. It's a simple dish but my family loves it.

@sathviksouvik I like sunny weather because more activities can be done outside. But I like rain as well, it makes the air feel so cool and fresh.

Oh that is one popular comfort food for sure! Can't go wrong with instant noodles on a rainy day.
You weren't eating the instant noodles out in the rain though, did you?

@Anqaya I used to go to a boarding school and instant noodles are a popular late night meal. Not very healthy, I know.

@Xx21joy I do, but I can't stand the Samyang Korean one that has gone viral here. Too spicy for me! And I haven't tried all the different variants, just the mi goreng sambal pedas. Wow I've never tried adding rice into my noodles!

Oh we have Indomie instant noodles here as well, but Maggi is a more popular brand. I like the Mie Sedaap brand, especially the sambal pedas flavour. They come with the fried onions too.

I agree. I guess there are certain times when they're used more. I don't usually cook this dish on hot days.

I like to eat roast chicken when in bad weather. LOL. And I use white pepper most of the time because it has fewer oxalates. My body can't handle too many oxalates and I will get rashes.

Roast chicken is delicious! Do you make it with any gravy?
I usually add a dash of ground white pepper when I make sambal, the spicy gravy.

I haven't seen you for some time now. I hope you are well and you'll be back soon.
I use black pepper in most everything. Even buttered popcorn.
