Angel wanted to go for a walk this morning, and I took her. She took me to the street side of the complex, which was the side the park is on, and behind it, the elementary school (which I attended many many decades ago). As Angel and I were walking, lots of moms passed us walking their kids to school. I saw a school bus pull up in front of the school, and lots of parents and kids heading that direction. Wow. Sure seemed weird to see kids going to school after all this time--especially this time of year. Of course, even before COVID it seemed that kids were going to school earlier and earlier in the year after "summer vacation".

I grew up in Connecticut and when I was young we used to be off for the whole summer and went back to school after Labor Day. But by the time I had my own children, they were going back to school the week before Labor Day, and getting the 3 day weekend to get a little bit of an ease in the transition back into the school year. Now I live in Georgia and the kids here go back to school right around August 1st. Of course, they get out of school at the end of May and that is earlier than when summer started for us in CT. It just seems that August is still summer to me, and no one should have to be going to school in the heat of August!

That's the way it was with me, too. Summer ended in August, and in September we went back to school.

I used to teach, so it seems weird that I see the school buses go by and I am not at the school waiting for the kids.
