A beautiful place with a horrible reputation

In Odense there is a beautiful park. The official name is the Hans Christian Andersen park, but among the locals it is known as the fairy tale park. In my childhood this park had a horrible reputation because a lot of criminals spent their time there. The park is a shortcut between different parts of the city, but most locals stayed away from the park because they didn't want to get mugged. Tourists and people who had just moved to the city didn't know that it wasn't a safe place, and sometimes they had picnics in the park or decided to sit down and enjoy the sunshine. Unfortunately some of them found out the hard way that it wasn't such a good idea to spend time there. The park looks very different now. The hiding places that the criminals used in the past have been removed. Now it is harder to hide behind corners etc and there is less crime. I am not afraid to visit the place during the day, but I would never use it as a shortcut at night. The old reputation is hard to get rid of, and despite the changes some locals still consider it a place to avoid at all costs. Personally I think it fine to take photos during the day, but at night this park might still be worse than some of the others. Photos: mine Left side: Hans Christian Andersen (not in the park) and the fairy tale castle Right side: Paper boat sculpture and heart decoration

It's so sad that the reputation of the park fell because of those criminals. I hope it gets renovated criminal free in the future.

Yes, it is sad. It has always been a beautiful place, but it wasn't a safe place in the past. I am happy that they decided to make some changes and remove some of the hiding places that the criminals used in the past. It is much harder to hide now.

@Porcospino They did a good job with the removal and change. Now, criminals will have a bad time.

@Anqaya Exactly. Now it is much easier to see where you are walking and there are no corners where the crimnals can hide.

That is true. Some of the people who grew up in the city still avoid the place.

You are welcome. At the moment there are flower decorations in the park because it is part of the flower festival. It looks beautiful.
