Goodbye for Who Knows How Long?

We are going to get clobbered by hurricane Henri. Busy picking ripe vegetables, storing all flowers and vegetables in our garage and battening down the deck furniture. The generator is primed and ready and food and water is in good supply. Our son and we will be there for each other if help is needed. So happy he lives within walking distance if necessary. My greatest fears are having huge trees crash down on our houses and losing cable. We can watch movies and TV and cellular data if the towers aren’t affected. So if you don’t hear from me, I’m either dead or have no cable. lol Yet another adventure for us!

Hopefully, you will just get a glancing blow. They are not recommending anyone from your area evacuate are they?

@DianneN Get ready for tons of rain! Weirdly when Fred cam through here, we had some heavy showers for a couple of days here and there not steady at all..and the last day it was around it was quite breezy, balmy really and then it moved away.

No evacuations here, but they are along the coastal towns further east. It’s a category 1 and slow moving, so it won’t be a glancing blow.

@DianneN Clear out the safest, strongest area in your home, usually the laundry or bathroom. Have a pillow handy to cover your head and maybe a few blankets. It wouldn't hurt to have a martini in both hands to take the edge off.

It looks very bad and I’m getting scared. Perhaps we should head to Florida and risk dying from Delta there instead of a tree killing us in our sleep. Such choices!

@shaggin Oh, yes! Connecticut has had very low numbers all summer. Delta is creeping in now. Florida is insane with covid. Not planning to return until it’s safe.

I pray that Henri will pass through mildly so no one is harmed or loses power. Thank goodness you 2 have the sense to prepare for the worst.

I appreciate that, but Henri is going to be a hum doozy! Category 1 and slow moving. We are as prepared as possible. Hubs brought home prepared meals that our son can eat if necessary. I have the laundry going, and even put out some candles.

After watching the storm most of the day on TV and online, the worst has moved on. Just lots of heavy rain, but no trees fell and the cable is still on. I told hubs that I want some massive trees removed from our yard asap. He agreed. Thanks so much! Huge sigh of relief!

@DianneN We had a beautiful tall magnolia tree in the garden that we had to remove because we feared it would have fallen on the house in case of high winds. I was really sad, but it was necessary. I am glad the storm is over.

@LadyDuck My son is having them planted this fall, but far from his house. They are beautiful trees, but safety is a priority. I am so glad the storm is gone. I was petrified not knowing what it would do. Thank you!

@jstory07 Very true. We just got off the phone with three couples who are friends of ours to see how they are doing. One lost power and they say it can take days to get it back! We invited them to stay with us after the storm. Will hear back tomorrow.

@wolfgirl569 We are a twenty minute drive to the water and about 400 feet above sea level. Only have small lakes, ponds, and creeks close to me. Thanks. The storm took a turn and moved away from us. Just going to continue with heavy rains until tomorrow they say.

Thanks. I’m a nervous wreck right now. We started getting some rain and the wind is 40 miles an hour in a town 30 minutes away. The seas are up, too, especially with a full moon. Hope to see you in a few weeks.

JUst saw that Henri has gotten so strong. Already praying for you and the others safety in that region. If youdon't need the for a bath I would fill tubs to have water to flush and I would take a good shower at least just before the storm hits sneding angels to watch over you

Thanks so much! We have a generator to keep the well going, but will fill the tub with water just to be safe. Doing all the rest of the laundry now, and even have prepared meals for several days for us and our son as a back up. We will both shower again tonight before going to sleep. You have wonderful information. Hugs to you!!!

Who would have ever thought that evacuating TO Florida to avoid a hurricane would be the prudent thing to do! haha I always worry about trees coming down on top of houses, and this time will be no different. I'll worry about you until such time as I hear back from you again. I hope all goes well, all things considered.
