How long do cats live?

I am a sentimental type of person. And selfish too. I know it is hard to believe ..but .. I have had my heart hurt by an Alsatian. That dog was so dignified ... he could give anybody in suit and boot a run for their money. When uncle died he became almost mad...so aunt put him to sleep. I could never do that to a dog like that. No matter how mad it became. But I know most dogs last hardly 10 years or even less. I am 62. By the time I am 72, he would be gone...that is not ok. Then may be when I am 70 I could get me a decent dog. I might die and it will survive me. That is where selfishness comes. You see? But if cats live longer, I could get a dog and a cat provided the dog does not eat the cat. Then probably the dog would have another animal to remain attached to, after I am gone. Just toying with the idea. Life is so unreliable these days. I envy Eva James. She has cute animals around her.

You can pet few buffaloes as after you everyone would be able to keep them as they would milk them. I am not sure what's the life of a cat.

They are larger than I. That makes me feel so insecure...kinda if they tried to play with me, my back would break.

I'm not very sure but I think cats can live up to 15 years. I also understand how you feel, I wish my pets were eternal, I love them so much and also I wouldn't trust them to anyone haha

They offer pure love. Who could object? I remember I had some issues and I was crying near the pool, all alone, and Russo came and sat beside me. He was not my dog. But he understood.

@samysotelo18 Not all, dogs and cats and chicken...and goats...and cows and pigs and elephants and horses. I read somewhere that pigs and elephants are quite intelligent.

I always get two kittens together so they have each other for company.

Do they fight? I know Russo was not happy with Tiger...always dominating him. Tiger became quite a meek dog..even though he was a pure labrador. I am told Tiger missed me after I returned to India...but Russo took care of it even though he himself was grieving.

@vandana7 They are brothers and they get wild sometimes playing. They are three now so they are starting to calm down. To answer how long cats live it actually depends on the breed. My four in Colorado lived 22 years, 19 years, 18 years and 15 years.

A cat in the UK lived 42 years, most house cats reach the age of 15, even 17. Some dog breeds live longer than others Beagles have a lifespan of around 15 years, Jack Russel Terrier 17 years.

@vandana7 Beagles are strong friendly dog, Golden Retrievers have a lot of health problems, my niece spent a fortune at the vet for her Golden Retriever, that was a very dumb dog!

Tortoises don't display love as humans understand...that is a huge disadvantage...Moreover, they move around slowly on the floor. Accidentally, stamping them is possible.

An indoor cat that has been properly taken care of can live for 30 years or more. The oldest cat on record lived for 39 years.

Ah...I would need a lot of yard for a horse. 20 years does seem wonderful. How about lambs and goats?

@vandana7 They range but goats can go 10 years easy. I think sheep are about the same. I have heard of 15 for goats.

You think as I do. I wish dogs, especially, could live as long as we do.

With humans we can have a moment or two of unpleasantness. With these pets, there simply is no such moment. The pain will be more acute I feel.
