What a Terrible Time to Be a Music Hall of Famer

Four days. Four musicians. All four in halls of fame.
The latest casualty of age is Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts.
The Stones announced that Watts wouldn’t be on the tour because he was recovering from surgery and wasn’t feeling well.
He died this morning (8/24/21).
Charlie Watts was one of the founding members of The Rolling Stones, a history that goes back almost sixty years. Through the good times and the bad, there was Charlie, laying down the backbeat as well as any drummer in rock and roll….all while looking like he’d rather be at home.
Truthfully, he would have. Watts might have been a rocker but he was no rock star. He didn’t chase the women (he was married for nearly 58 years) or participate in the outrageous activities. Yes, he had a drug and alcohol problem, but nothing compared to his more notorious band mates.
What a sad, sad week for music. Watts, as I said, becomes the fourth person in a music hall of fame to die in four days, following Tom T. Hall (country, bluegrass, songwriter), Don Everly (rock, country, songwriter), and Country Gentlemen co-founder Bill Emerson (bluegrass).
Charlie Watts was 80.
My favorite Stones song:

@porwest — with teenage girls throwing themselves (literately) at the guys there’s only so much temptation a person can resist.

Losing another 60s star makes me sad...not only for his family and friends but because it feels like another part of my teenage years has been taken away from me. :-(

it bothers me when the 80s acts start dropping. We’ve had two of those this week, too: one from UB40 and one from Simply Red.

You forgot Brian Travers of UB40.
Brian Travers, the saxophonist and founding member of UB40, died on Sunday at the age of 62 following a lengthy battle with brain cancer. The band released a statement confirming the news on their social media platforms. "It is with great sadness that we a

I have him on the obit list. UB40 isn’t in the Hall of Fame, though.
