Passing on paying my student loan this month

The payments have been deferred for over a year now. I've still been making monthly payments because I just want the damn things to be paid off. I've even been paying a little extra too. It was announced last month that the payment deferral would be extended for another 6 months. I had no plans to stop paying. . . but then I wound up with almost $8000 in emergency vet bills this month thanks to Charlie the Cat. I'll be taking advantage of the option to not have to make a payment this month. I'll probably skip next month too. I'd rather work toward paying off the credit card with the high interest rate.

Smart choice. Pay off the highest rate first.

The question is, and I don't know the answer, is are they deferring interest as well? Because if they are not, that just means the balance is going up more the longer you don't pay. It's like when the bank says, "Merry Christmas. Go ahead and skip a payment." THEY don't skip adding an interest charge. lol

@NJChicaa So, no interest being charged at all? Then it's not a bad idea.

Good thing there is a deferment. Never had one here in the Philippines. Thing is during lockdowns banks were closed. They said one can pay online, fine, but what if one doesn't have an online account or the online account has limitations. I could use some months of deferment.

try to start a "Go Fund Me" for Charlie. The bill is insane.

I don't blame you. I know you want to get that loan paid off, but care credit, while a lifesaver, does ridiculously high min payments.

I'd pay off the credit card instead of the student loan too.
