One of the oldest buildings in Odense is called "The old inn". The building is from 1683, and it hasn't always been an inn. In the past the building belonged to a carpenter, a shoemaker, a baker etc.
In 1874 the building became a cafe. The cafe had two rooms - one room for men and one room for women. Couples were not allowed to sit together. Male customers were able to order alcohol, but female customers were not allowed to drink alcohol.
In 1937 a man bought the building, and it became an inn. Many changes have happened since that time, but it is still an inn. The old rules about separate rooms and no alcohol for women were abolished a long time ago.
I have seen the inn from the outside, but I have never been inside. Their food used to be really expensive. At that time I couldn't even afford a sandwich It is still pretty expensive compared to other restaurants in the area, but not as expensive as it used to be.
I would love to see the inside of the inn especially the basement (the oldest part of the building). According to the legends it is haunted.

The building holds so much of the history it makes it really interesting. Time has truly changed a lot and I’m just glad that women have more privileges now than they did in past. Can’t imagine living in those days when i would be considered less of a citizen simply because of my gender.

I think that old buildings are fascinating and I always try to find information about them if I can. I am also glad that things are different now. Now we can all order from the same menu, and the choices don't depends on our gender.

It is probably best to avoid the basement if you are alone I passed the buiilding so many times, but I have never been inside because it is so expensive. Maybe one day

@LadyDuck Yes, I also feel it is a waste of money. I grew up in the city where the inn is. My parents, my brother and I visited other restaurants, but we never went to that place because it is so expensive.

I have only seen it from the outside, but it could be fun to visit the inside one day - if I can afford it

Yes, I think it is more realistic now. The place is still expensive but not as expensive as it used to be.

I have to buy food or drinks if I want to see the inside, and this place is really expensive compared to other restaurants. Maybe I will just buy a cup of coffee, I guess I can afford that It would be fun to explore the inside of the building.

I love looking at videos online of old buildings like that and the haunted stories they hold.

@Porcospino Yes, especially things like what they once were. I am particularly interested when I find that what are now inns were once residences for affluential people.
