Keeping my fingers crossed...

After 18 months of being jobless, saw a ray of hope yesterday. I was called for an interview from one of the many Hotels which I had applied all these days... They were quite impressed with me, but things got stuck at the salary part.... They are not ready to pay what I used to earn earlier. I understand that hospitality industry, is one of the worst hit due to the pandemic....but not getting the salary what I had been earning earlier has disappointed me a bit..... So just waiting for an answer from the HR team. What shall I do? Do I agree to their salary whatever they offer or to still keep waiting?

If they cannot match your salary initially perhaps they can set a timeline for receiving raises or offer other perks for you to balance it out.

After 18 months of being jobless, I'd grab onto this position until something better comes along! Reject a job? God forbid, NO!

I am not sure about it Sam..myself, I would be able to take it as I would have something rather than nothing. But this is entirely dependent on if it is costing you more to work there. I am happy that they called you Congratulations

I hope you get a job you like and close to the salary you need... You can always keep hunting for a different job while you earn less than you want. Surely that situation won't last forever.

If you are desperate then you should take it. If you can hold off then perhaps you should decline, especially if it will do you harm career-wise. Can you negotiate your pay?

@lovebuglena thank you very much....that's what few of my friends told me.. But am running out of cash, almost nil.... At the same time my salary would be 22% lesser than what I was earning earlier and I was told that I may not have any support team to handle and I would be working all alone. I'm trying to negotiate....let me wait and watch what the HR team would offer me final...

In my opinion, you should negotiate and should seize the opportunity because I think the hotel industry is not going to nurture soon. You already might have used up money from your savings as you told that you don't have a job at present. You should search for a job with better income after some time.

Is the salary too small, then don't work if not so then accept it at least there's something for sustenance and to avoid boredom at home.

If I'm in your position I will accept the job as it is hard to find a job now that is pandemic. Even if the salary is not that big but if you can still wait then just wait for a better opportunity

I would say it is better to start on the job as times in the hospitality industry are the pits now everywhere. Then you will know better as the opportunities open up. Best of luck.
