Recently, local newspapers' headlines in indonesia is filled with sad news about 9 year old kid who's been tortured to death by his friends. the reason? the kids say they are imitating action from pro-wrestling programme called 'smack down' in television.
parents are protesting the television stations, demanding that such programmes should be banned because they have bad influence on kids.
what do you think, guys? is it true that pro-wrestling programmes can influence kids to be aggressive?

People need to realise that what they see on television is usually pretend and make believe.
There was a story of some young men who stole a car, and thought that if they got across state lines in the USA, they could not be chased by the police.
It turns out that they were wrong, the police can cross state lines, with permission.
So, not everything on television is real.
The parents need to take responsibility for what the children are watching, and to make sure that they do not act out the inappropriate behaviour that they see on the television screen.

the indonesian tv station has put the show late at night (around 10 P.M) so i think yes, it's the parents' responsibility not to allow their children to stay up that late and watching shows that are not for them. thanks for the respond!

I think the best time is 00.00 . So when the kid want to watch it, their parents have already told them to sleep, coz they must go to school tommorow.
But the TV Station is not a social organization, The working men also can't watch it, because they got to work tommorow. Then who will watch it ?
And remember TV company wants a huge rating isn't it ?

pro wrestling is not my favourite tv show either, but it's unfair to blame them because our the event with many preceeding factors.violence on tv is just a minor part in developing aggressive behavior on children. it's the parents control that matters.

I don't like it either, but that's not a reason for blaming it.
How many kids who watch it kills their friends? All? 50%? 10%? 1%?
Should we blame cartoons, movies, comic books? Certainly no.

yes, television won't ban programme with high rating, even it give bad impacts to the society.
i hope parents in indonesia can be wiser in controling their child watch tv.since children absorp what they see and listen easily.
we don't want our lovely country indonesia become a full-of-criminals country rite?
~parents out there, grow ur child with not only with material but also with morality and love~

There is a good and bad in television...
But, in the fake pro-wrestlings are too many bad things..
Many bad influences come from it...We have seen it...
It's good for adult entertainment only...As for me, it's not a good entertainment...

When I want to get some DVD in manngadua, the sellers are gone away, because police come to make an inspection of smackdown DVD.
Well I think It doesn't matter If the smack down is broadcast by night. Because when some kid saw it and got it interesting, he will talk to his friends tommorow at school and so the others followed him.
And about influences, Children is really can be easily influence. For the truth, It's not just smackdown that have gone into problem like this. before that, there is Tekken where the kid try the Law's bicycle kick. And guess what the kid got ? yes, he's got broken leg. and many more before that.
When I was a kid, I saw many people want to hung up themselves. Then one day I saw the exact place from the movie I saw. There's a rope hanging at the ceiling. My mind thinking, "Is being hung up is so good that many people in TV do it ? Well I must try it". The moment later I already hunged up. I can't breath and feels so hurt, until my both kicking foot reach the footing (the place that I jumped). And yes I nearly go to Hell.
So Kid's Curiousity is so, so and so dangerous. They will find the way out when they got into the curious zone.
Hope you can understand from my Bad Experienced. :)

I think that the minds of kids are can be very easily persuaded. Television will always show bad shows, and this is where parents should take a stand and prohibit their kids from watching this shows. Parents should also explain the difference between what's real and what's not. After all is not the Tv stations fault that some parents are not spending enough time with their kids and are letting the TV raise their offsprings.

Hi,
Its sad to hear the news. What I will like to say that any program on TV influences kids. Anything they hear, see, listen influences them. What they should be taught by the parents is the ability to differentiate between right and wrong.
There is a soap that come on TV in my country and most of the characters in the program have either married twice, thrice, have kids from other relationships and so on.. and in an embarassing situation i overheard a kid asking her mother mom who is my second dad like such and such character in the serial.
In another situation, a small kid in an innocent way kisses a girl on her lips... thats another influence of a movie he has seen.
Another situation, a kid wants to see his mother in a swim suit he's seen in a fashion show on tv.
Next we are going to talk about banning all such programs.
Its the responsibility of the parents to teach their children, right and wrong.

i don't see any good from such programs, but i'm against banning it. you are right, mate, it's parents' responsibility to prevent their kids from imitating violent shows.

Yes, it is true. Children tend to imitate what they see or hear. When the parents dont warn them, then they'll think that they've done the right thing. Lativi has broadcast the WWE too much. Last Ramadhan, Lativi even broadcast it during sahur! That's nasty!

I use to love pro wrestling back in the days when it was fun.I live near memphis, tn and we had the best local wrestling in the world. All the WWE programs are ridiculous. I quit watching them years ago. If I had children I would never let them watch that sort of stuff now.

On TV are a ton of different programmes that can influence bad kids, not just pro-wrestling.
The only thing a parent can do about it, to let their kids watch just what they think it's not too bad for them.
It's no other way, because something which is bad for ones, is excellent entertainmet for others.
