Like you I am also trying to minimise electric and water consumption. For instance water. We reuse water from shower to flash the toilet. Not to save a little money but to conserve water. I use basin or pail while running water to wash vegetables and fruits and reuse the water to water the plants.

I tried that for a bit, and am still trying it. Also got a rain barrel to gather rainwater, but could not get it to work 8n the right way. Had to return it.

@onbigsmile I don’t live in my own place but yes rain water is the best too, If we save water here, we don’t get much savings because the water is cheap here anyway. But nevertheless why not.

I wrote an article once about ways to cut back on expenses - washing clothes by hand and putting them on the line to dry was one of the ways.
We got into the practice of turning off the hot water heater at night - that was a big savings - but challenging to keep doing consistently.
But if you can get into the habit, quite substantial.
Getting rid of appliances such as half empty deep freezers - that saved a lot too.

Thank you for the idea about the water heater. I may try that if I can convince my husband that it might be worth a go. He has come a long way with the frugal thing, but still thinks some of my ideas are way out there.

I also save money by saving electric consumption.

I scaled down on ordering food takeouts.

@onbigsmile I agree with you.
Sometime, I order take out to treat myself.

That is certainly one way to go. However, I find it difficult to give that up completely, because take out food is generally so good.

Yeah. I had to practice that for a while to the point where I was not throwing away stuff. The stuff I threw away would go on the compost heap, but still. I have gotten better about it lately though.

I seldom iron clothes. I choose clothes that can be worn without ironing. I also use fresh calamansi juice instead of ready to drink juices.

@onbigsmile good thing now that office clothes are adapting. Used to don on suits and corporate get ups and denims on weekends. Now the work environment has changes. Shirts and jeans are acceptable. Still have a formal office uniform we wear every Monday but does not need ironing, fabric as I see it has more rayon and polyester so it doesn't crumple.

Those ideas sound good as well. Thanks.
I also am a ready-to-war girl. I do not think I have ironed a shirt for over ten years, and I do not miss it at all.

I used to buy 'the cheap versions' of groceries; but ever since the pandemic, I've just had my caregiver buy all the groceries I need on her way home from work. And I don't want to DEMAND she chooses 'the cheap versions' (mostly "generic brands"). She controls all the money anyway ...
