Is retired life much better?

My aunt was laid off from her work last month. She's almost retired anyway so she just took the compensation money that they offered. I told her I was envy of her. She told me she's really bored now. Maybe she's used to working all her life that she has no idea what to do now. Her daily routine would be jogging, cooking, playing with her cats and watch drama. She also started making random videos for TikTok. She was pretty excited to be retired. Now she seems to be regretting it a bit. Is life not exciting anymore after you retired? I thought you can finally rest and take your time for everything.

I'm retired and love it. At first it was hard to adjust to not having to go to work every day but that didn't last long

Maybe she's having a hard time adjusting. It used to be a hectic life for her after all. Suddenly she got nothing to do.

Mike has been retired since the end of August 2014 and has loved every minute of it. We are on our own time schedule now, we can do what we like when we want to. Some people have a hard time adjusting but this is what we worked hard for. I hope you aunt will enjoy her retirement and not be so bored.

Maybe they need to find something they want to do too. That way they'll feel less bored.

This is what many of my younger colleagues asked me during the year before my retirement when they learnt that time was up for me. Some even thought I was...

@MALUSE Lilie actually the flower Lily. I like the sound of it but not the flower. Also Lilie or Lily is not my real name. So combining the two, it's like saying that's not my name, but I like to use it. It doesn't have deeper meaning than that.

@prinzcy I've wanted to ask you for some time what your user name means in English. Which language is it? I'm German and when I see your name, I see a combination of two German words which doesnt make any sense. Not = distress / misery / hardship / need Lilie = lily (the flower) What say?

On the one hand it is fun but on the other hand the transition to retirement is difficult and requires a period of adjustment, it is understandable

This is where a hobby is important then. By the rate of she's making video, she'll soon be a Tiktok star.

According to my mother. She don`t want to retire as long as she can still work. That`s why after a year being retired she accepted a consultancy job offer.

I've been off work since January this year and haven't regretted it yet. (Of course, I still edit manuscripts for authors I know once in a while... I was gone from myLot last week while I edited one manuscript and have another manuscript I'm supposed to edit in hand... I've started it but had to put it on hold for a bit... ) I think, once your aunt figures out what she wants to do now that she's retired, she'll be fine.

I plan to work just a bit after retiring. At least it won't be hectic and endless rushing here and there. She really need to do that. Just find something that can fill her time. I

@prinzcy I plan on still editing manuscripts after I retire. It's good money and doesn't take a lot of time. Ask her what kind of things does she like to do and see if there is anything online that fits that description. She can always join groups that talk about the things she likes doing. That would give her social contact and something to do at the same time.

Slot of people still want to be productive.Staying home is less interaction and nothing to do. You have to set up a new schedule which is not as exciting as it sounds

I think it depends on whether or not you have a hobby you want to focus your attention on, if you don't, it is just boring and kind of empty.

It depends. If I have enough money to spend on myself after retirement then I would say retirement is good and if not then I would like not to get retired from the job.

Like anything in life you have to have a game plan. I would be bored silly if I retired, so I continue to work. Ten years ago I felt that I was ready, and I quit my job but I returned to the workplace the following year as I was too young and nobody else my age was retired so I became lonely.

How old is she? Once a person retires, his or her body and brain starts to slow down. I have a friend who is in her late 60s, she started to forget this and that, became thinner

She's 50++. At least she already got all her pension money so I know she passed the eligible age.
