Work begins for staff tomorrow but the students don't return until next week. Tomorrow we have a building meeting from 8-10:30 am. Then we have the rest of the day (until 3 pm) to work in our rooms. That will give me time to do all of the forensics prep that I failed to do this summer.
Thursday is all day with the science department and supervisor. He never has anything planned for us so I'm sure it will be a colossal waste of time. I always feel my blood pressure rising as I sit there waiting for him to do something. Again we are supposed to stay until 3 pm but people will start bailing after 1. That is just how we roll.
Friday we have district-wide workshops. I just registered for 3 of them. I have like no interest in the topics but I had to sign up for something. Luckily Friday's day only goes until 1:30 pm. We are free to leave after that.
We used to just have 1 staff day before the start of the school year--half of it with the building administrators and the other half with the department supervisor. They started this 3 day crap a couple of years ago and it is absolutely obnoxious.

The WEA negotiated ten days extra for teachers here, 5 before school began and 5 days after for a total of 190 days
Is your contract for only 183 days?
Extra paid work days here was a great thing. Teachers here needed that time to prepare.

Those built in days are really helpful during the school year.
Those are mostly inservice days and you choose which classes to attend.
Free lunches and coffee on those days here.

@Vikingswest1 In 20 years I have only ever attended ONE PD day in which I learned something useful to incorporate into my lessons. We actually did receive free lunch that day too because the whole thing was presented and funded by a grant from Rutgers University.

What is PD? Here for any vacation, teachers and staff get less days. We stay one week after the vacation starts and we come a week before the actual vacation begins. We have to do all winding up after the semester ends and preparation for a new one.

I'm surprised they didn't just have the meetings via Zoom. Well, at least you'll get your lesson plan done.
