What has / do you believe people learn by being exposed to the wealthy?

Or for that matter, the less fortunate? What have you learned by being exposed to an income bracket that is not your own? I grew up poor. I am poor now. I know how to save, but I also know how to spend (sometimes too much). I can do without. I've done without before. Being exposed to wealthier people gives me a reason to appreciate what I have. I have no envy for those wealthier than me because excessive money isn't for me. I do not believe I would use it excessively if I ever had an excessive amount. Of course everyone says that. What about you? What are you feelings on this?

At first I envy them, but later on realize that you have to live within your means and you get to appreciate more of what you have and what you can buy. I saw people go bankrupt because of envy. I do not like that

No matter how rich other people are,it was irrelevant to our life.We don't have to compare with others, just lead a happy life by ourselves.comparison and envy is bad defect of humanity, people should consciously overcome those.

@jefferson126 true, but when you are young, somedays you dream of being rich. But it is good to learn the value of life and live what is in your means

I do not envy those wealthier. Some of them are so focused to make more money to show up that they forget to enjoy life.

This is true. It is about the next dollar for them, and they do not care how they have to get it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum So true, for some rich people the only thing that seems to count is to show to the others how much they have.

I grew up living comfortably. But when i was a kid my playmates were from very poor family and despite being poor they would invite me for a meal. I enjoyed their food. Actually they had no food except for rice and they just add cooking oil and salt to it. I found it delicious. When i came home my mom was surprised that I requested only rice and oil and salt from my nanny. I learned generosity from those people.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I’m glad our parents allowed us to be friends with whoever we want to.

I love this story. Children should be allowed to play with those less fortunate and see how they live. They have little but the children do not sense the same deprivation as the adults do.

I have tremendous empathy for homeless people. I could never be a homeless person in Ohio. The winters are too harsh; and I can't handle the cold. I could use some extra cash. There are things I'd like to do that I otherwise couldn't do. Have a great day.

I feel for those people too. On a slight aside, I recently saw an older gentlemen in a motorized scooter. He was in the middle of the road. There was no safe way for us to stop, and while I should have called the police I did not. He was not there when we returned a few minutes later.

My situation is similar....but I do feel envy/jealous of those who have more. I don't necessarily want to be rich...but it would be nice to not have to worry about money.

I understand that as I have felt the same. I always think "You're wasting your money! Why do you need excessive amounts of clothes etc?" I feel like most of the people with money just waste it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Well I really don't care what people do with it, or if they waste it, or have too much stuff; just wish I had the option to do the same if I wanted LOL

Living rich is the same as living poor. It's all a test, can the rich make the people around them happy? Just imagine in this world if there were no poor people, and everyone became rich, then who would need our money, because they all already have what they need. Or we see if all humans were poor, then no one would be able to go in the market anymore. It means that poor or rich need each other and complement each other. Without the poor, there would be no rich. That is, the person can be called rich, when he has the excess wealth of most people around him, while the people around him have limited property that is poor. So the poor are patient, and the rich are grateful a lot.

I don't think the rich are grateful, they are greedy. Few rich people would give to the poor. It would be nice if the rich gave to the poor and helped even out the income differences in this world, but it won't happen

@ScribbledAdNauseum My mind is the same. It's a tough test when people get rich. Remember Qorun's story, in the Qur'an and the biblical story may exist, Qorun was very poor, when given wealth he forgot, and was arrogant! Eventually all his wealth was sunk to the ground. Until now everyone finds treasures in the land must call it The Treasure of Qorun (Treasure)

I think it's human nature to feel a little envious, if only for a short time.

I am the same. I will sometimes make an un-necessary purchase, but I am also the type who will sit on a purchase decision until the last minute.

I don't envy the wealthy, happiness is not necessarily in proportion to money.I just try best to seek my own happiness based on my income.
