Let Thy Food Be Thy Medicine

Healthy and homemade goodness

As I'm sure most of us know , our foods have the ability to promote health or discourage -and even attack our health. Therefore it should come as no surprise that the Standard American Diet - has been dubbed the SAD diet and the term Diabesity refers to a form of diabetes that is associated or brought on as an effect of obesity. As a graduate of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and several other integrative wellness certification programs, and a woman who has struggled with my relationship with food, and to some extent my weight along with a couple of nasty health diagnoses and economic challenges ; I well understand this. Just as well as I understand the fact that God Blessed us with everything we need for health, youth, strength and vigor. We get to choose, as with anything else, although I respect the fact that often our choices can be limited by our budgets or at times, choice may even seem non- existant. Whenever we can choose, let's be proactive about our health, after all it is our greatest wealth. As I reflect on the quote of a man who was referred to as the father of medicine " Let thy food be thy medicine " I encourage you to seek out knowledge on what you put into your bodies as well as the healing and medicinal properties. And I will conclude this writing with a share of my own breakfast this morning and just a few of its overall benefits to my health; Breakfast Shot: *2 tsps of 100% honey *1 tsp of lemon juice *3/4 tsp of Saigon cinnamon *1/2 tsp organic cayenne pepper * 1/2 tsp organic raw tumeric root Breakfast Drink: 1 banana blended with 16 ozs of unsweetened almond milk, 2 tbsp ground flax meal 1 tbsp chia seed Just in the above breakfast I had one of the most nutritional foods in the world , which was used by Mayan's as a staple during long periods of hunts or battle when a nutritionally packed food was needed and literally is translated into the word "strength" in the Mayan language. Just to name a few of those nutrients; fiber, protein, magnesium, zinc, omega 3s, as well as minerals and enzymes. My breakfast shot reduced my hunger - literally - all day, boosted my metabolism provided a healthy dose of antioxidants to fight free radicals , hyper boosted my immunity, expanded my blood vessels and improved my circulation, curbed pain and decreased inflammation- which of course is a primary cause of pain and disease. Lowered my risk of some cancers, contained neurotrophic benefits that can fight and even repair neurological damage leading to alzheimers and dementia - and the list goes on and on . Definitely a breakfast of Champions, at least for me and the best part is - I did not feel deprived in the least. I want to eat to live, not live to eat; My body is a temple and I am called as a Christian to "offer my body as a living sacrifice , holy and pleasing to God-this is your (my) spiritual act of worship " Romans 12:1 see also Roman's 12:2 Being satisfied all day , even after an hour long workout , I had a non dairy yogurt alternative around 3pm and a nice dinner of veggies with more goodness birthed from the earth and mindfully seasoned. With that I share a link one of my favorite songs - in fact this is something of a theme song for me <3 with a few exceptions; The most Important being that -I am not concerned about seeing my name in lights but with The One Who Is The Light

Have you watch the documentary movie entitled FAT FICTION? If you do, the title of your discussion is very true.

@asianlady oh Thank you , I have Prime and there are some great documentaries there. Thank you for this recommendation, I think I will enjoy this tonight. These documentaries are really so informative and put a spotlight on what goes on behind the scenes in the food industry.

Yes, I do too Laura and it's not always easy but my goal is to continue to cleanse my diet until I have no or nearly no processed foods.

@Laurakemunto I'm so glad , It is truly the key to health and disease prevention. Proactive health right? I try to avoid all toxins as well . I do wish someone had shared the benefits with me when I was younger but certainly better late to wake up to the lies than never. And fortunately a lot of damage can be reversed

I drink something similar. Lemon, pear, honey, ginger, and cayenne pepper.

Oh Ginger is so healthy and I really enjoy it in so many foods. Do you make a tea of it ? Also can you share with me some of the benefits of your drink please. I'm also a fan of pears and it seems that this would complement the taste.

Sometimes I put my honey, lemon and cinnamon in a hot tea, but today I'm just mixing my medicinal concoction up and reminding myself that it's good for me and its really not so bad.

I also am very careful with I put into my body. I have found that following the original edenic diet that God gave mankind works best for me. I like the saying that an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

@EncouragerForTheKing Hi Pamela! Yes, there are many kinds of diets and it's good when we find one that keeps us happy and healthy!

Hi Ken, I'm not sure if the Edenic Diet was covered in my training . There were so many , is it primarily plant based, I have more of a vegan diet with honey pushing it a bit toward vegetarianism but I don't eat meat, dairy or eggs.

Well said . God has given us a bountiful harvest - in it's natural form but everything is mutated by the food and pharmaceutical industries. Food is a resource for life and health but I look to The Source Himself to keep me without the need to visit the Doctor . I passed on the surgery and I have declared healing By His touch over my body and spirit, I utilize the resources that He has Blessed me with to nurture and nourish my body. More concise " Gods Got Me, In All respects".

You are what you eat - as the popular phrase goes.
