I Used To Hate English

Believe it or not, I used to (really) hate English. I've never gotten good grades in English when I was in school. I didn't even know how to distinguish past tense and future tense. I used to wonder, why should there is English subject in the school?
And when I graduate, I don't really remember how I can be in an Indonesian Learner Group on Telegram. I met someone from San Diego who learn Indonesian.
I asked him, "Why do you learn Indonesian?"
He said, "because the greatest investment is in my own self, nothing to lose to learn"
From that chat, day by day we start to spend the time by learning the language. He learned Indonesian and I learned English. I could say, he was my grammar nazi.
Since I met him, I open my eyes that English is the world language.
I know my English right now is not perfect yet. I still use Reverso to check my grammar. And sometimes I still use google translate. But, I'm glad, at least I'm better than what I used to be.
Hey guys, do you have a story about your gladness of yourself? Let me know :)

My English is not good, but Im glad at least I know basic English for communication. I use English when I chat with cousins from my mother's side, because her family migrated to other country since she was a kid.
I remember I traveled abroad alone for the first time, on the day I was supposed to go home I hoped into the wrong train and got lost. That time, knowing little English really helped a lot. I asked the local people how to go to the airport, and they helped me so I could catch my flight on time. I wish to practice more, that's why Im here.

Considering that English is not your first language, you're much better at it than some native speakers!
I am a native English speaker with an English degree, experience as an English tutor, writer and editor, and a self-confessed grammar perfectionist (I prefer that term over grammar Nazi)! I still get confused with some aspects of the language, and I couldn't tell you half of the more complicated tenses!

I had a love-hate relationship with English. I used to like in my primary school, and I got good grades too. But then I switched school and my grades and love for English fell somewhat. Though I didn't pursue literature in higher studies, I kept a keen eye on my English reading and listening skills and I regained some of my confidence and love subsequently.

I wasn't really interested much in english until I got hooked into the call center business. Sadly, even after I had studied english language twice, I couldn't speak it very well. I didn't last as an agent.

I'm bad at grammar too, but who cares? I just love speaking it even if not perfect. LOL
