Where is your faith?

In Luke 8:25 Jesus asked his apostles this interesting question: "Where is your faith?"
Why is it that some people have faith and other people don't? Have you ever wondered about this?
It has been said that those that have faith don't need any explanation and that for those who don't have faith no amount of explanation is sufficient.
In Matthew 14:23-34 Jesus was walking on the water and Peter asked to make him walk on the water too. At first he was able to but when he looked at the storm he became fearful and started to sink.
A person that wants a bouquet of roses and becomes afraid of the thorns will not enjoy a bouquet of roses. Best to focus on the roses!

Excellent examples and thought provoking. Faith is nourishment for the soul, all we need do is believe.

Excellent quotation! Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Reason and faith go hand in hand. We need both to be complete.
Romans 12:1 (Amplified Bible, Classic Edition) "I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship."

Our "faith" isn't what heals us, but without it we can't be healed.

Faith and belief is something our minds cannot seem to comprehend much. Our minds want concrete proof all the time that's why we lose faith.
To answer your question, I believe in God but sometimes when miracles or the impossible happen it is hard to believe. Even if it already happened our minds continue to doubt it. Tsk tsk.

It seems from these verses that faith can be as big as we want it to be.
Luke 17:5-6 (Easy-to-Read Version) 5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Give us more faith!” 6 The Lord said, “If your faith is as big as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Dig yourself up and plant yourself in the ocean!’ And the tree will obey you.

Where is my faith?
This question implies that I once had it but lost it, in some ways too.
Our faith stays buried under a stack of doubts, deposited in our minds, from our fears.
We need to let our mind rest aside for a while, and so reach into the deposits of faith, unminded in our heart, and as these well up more and more, they will then be too strong for those doubts and fears, of our minds, to overcome.
So, we need to spend time in our heart, and less time in our mind, via prayer, and love for God.

"Our faith stays buried under a stack of doubts, deposited in our minds, from our fears."
Peter had faith but lost it temporarily when he focused on the storm rather than Jesus. The storm scared him and by losing focus on Jesus he started to sink. But he quickly regained his faith by crying
out to Jesus to save him and Jesus reached out and saved him. (What can we learn?)
Matthew 14:30 (Easy-to-Read Version" "But while Peter was walking on the water, he saw the wind and the waves. He was afraid and began sinking into the water. He shouted, “Lord, save me!”"

@kanuck1 Yes, we too should try to have the perception to know that we have lost our faith, or some of it too.
At these times, like Saint Peter, we should call out to Jesus to help us too.
Such a call helps us to restore our lost faith, especially when Jesus answers our call, as he always will do so too.
