Day 86
1 Kings 6:11 And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying,
12 “Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spoke unto David thy father:
13 “And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people, Israel.”
14 So Solomon built the house, and finished it.
Since 1875, when Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, people have connected with one another as a way of communication. They didn’t need to visit their friends and neighbors to get information, they could talk to them via the telephone.
God communicated with Solomon through His prophet, unnamed here, to let Solomon know Israel would always be His people if they obeyed Him, and He would keep His word to David.
As Christians, how often does God talk to you without you initiating the conversation first? I’m going to guess, not often. Prayer is a two-way street. Either God or you can initiate the conversation.
Solomon began building God’s house. He got God’s attention when he did and God sought him out to speak to him. How do you get God’s attention?
You get God’s attention when you spend time in His Word. He seeks you out when you do more than read the Scriptures, but spend time studying God’s Word.
You get God’s attention when you’re thankful for all the blessings He gives you. The more thankful you are, the more He will bless you.
You get God’s attention when you tell others about His Son, Jesus, and all the amazing things He did for you and how He saved you.
You get God’s attention when you pray. When your prayers are God-centered and not self-centered, you have His attention. When you praise God for His many blessings, you have His attention.
When you have His attention, God will speak with you, friend to friend. When was the last time you visited a friend and you didn’t feel like an interloper, but felt welcomed and spent time with your friend? God wants the same welcome in your life. He will seek you out. All you need is to open the door and let Him in.
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hears my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Get God’s attention today. Let Him in and He will be your best friend.
Let’s pray: Father, I want Your friendship. Let me hear Your voice and spend time with You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
