The Dude Brought Me A Gift

My cats don't go outside. They have the screen room to visit. This morning the Dude decided to bring a gift to me. A salamander. A few weeks ago, Brendel did the same thing. Most cats enjoy bringing gifts to their Mom. I don't care for these type of gifts, but I wasn't mad at the Dude. He was only been a cat. And this one did not survive. I disposed of him. Now he is looking for it everywhere. He might find an other one. I have to watch where I step. Not my photo.

Nico would not gift that to me, he would be trying to devour it. I would toss it out and then he would be mad. I do let him eat moths though. I figure they are harmless enough.

Last week Gaia brought me two mice. I think they came from the bin store, so that has been given a good clean out and tidy. No more prezzies, if that is where they came from

@CarolDM Yes, she was so proud of herself and when I removed the little body she set off looking for it!

How did he get it? And, that's cute. He thinks he's teaching you the art of the hunt.

Tell The Dude how happy you were, and ask him next time if he could bring you a couple of $100 bills instead.

Your cats are trying to outdo each other with the gifts that they are bringing to you.

My mom's cat once brought her a bat. It made a huge mess. No wonder you don't like these gifts so much

Cats are hunters and we must not get mad at them. I am sorry for the little salamander.

@CarolDM I saved the life of a baby lizard one hour ago, I have seen it moving, the cat of my neighbor was rushing to get it, I grabbed the cat. He is a lovely cat, he was not even upset.

I was not mad. Being indoor cats, this was a treat for them.

Growing up, our cats were outside cats. We were always finding gifts on our front doorstep. Mostly birds and mice, and occasional reptiles or amphibians. Once our cat brought us a fish from the lake out back! That must have been some feat for him to catch that!

@CarolDM I didn’t mind the mice, but it bothered me when the cat brought birds.

This is the main reason we don't have a cat. I couldn't deal with it destroying all the local wildlife that we are trying to encourage!

@CarolDM Oh I see. We already have a stream of other people's cats touring our garden every single day. One of them comes round three times a day and is often trying to creep up on a bird or vole. It's been coming round ever since we moved there five years ago (and presumably before that) and we still haven't found where it actually lives!

I didn't like the gifts Psycho used to bring to me. I would never hurt his feeling but still...

@CarolDM Our cat would stand on the railing at the top of the stairs and jump of landing on our poor dog. He would start running in the kitchen, through the dining room and into the living room sounding like an elephant was running through the house. He would take a flying leap onto the drapes in the living room climb to the top and let go landing on the floor. He was phycho

These kitties I have now have not brought me gifts. I did see Tinker doing catch and release outside with a lizard last week. I also glimpsed what I think Might be a salamander running under our porch.

I don't care for this type of gift either. Our dogs used to get rid of the chipmunk population. One brought one to the door for us. :-(
