Rum and Louise.

“Toodle pip the night” is Louise’s favourite song to dance to when her rum intake passes everyone else’s. That’s not the reason that I left her, but it certainly was an incentive. Tonight she sang it at Madeleine’s Beach Bar and it felt like most of Guadeloupe’s population had stopped talking to listen before asking each other what the strange squawking noise was. And she danced, at least she thought she was dancing. In reality what happened was that all power drained from her legs and she slithered down the side of the bar onto the floor still singing “Toodle pip the night”. I had to take her home and I think she thought we were still together so now I’ll have to avoid the Beach Bar just in case.
