Ambrosia (ragweed) effects

September 16, 2021 10:07am CST
The explanation is simple: apparently I have an allergy to ambrosia (ragweed)! I have developed it in the recent years. Two years ago I began a treatment to diminish this allergy, or maybe get rid of it for good. The treatment consists in taking a bit of ambrosia each day and increasing the dosage until a plateau, after that I continue with the same dosage... from March until November. The good part is that I am fine until the ambrosia season begins, here it begins around July. I can see some improvement, but the days when I inhale a big dose from the atmosphere are horrible! In those days I can't breathe properly and I have the feeling of suffocating. My eyes and my nose itches.... and I can't stay outside for too long, just in the evenings. The positive part is that wearing a face mask on the street helps diminish the quantity of ambrosia pollen I inhale :))) but it isn't enough to stop all of it. Photo: wikipedia

I’m sorry you are struggling with allergies. Masks help us all in so many ways. I’m only allergic to any meds with CIPRO in them. Not fun.

@andreea_v Thanks, and what’s scary is that they get worse with every occurrence.

I hope that the treatment will work. It is supposed to take between 3 to 5 years to see improvements: )))) Yes, a lot of people started to have allergy at this plant because ragweed started to spread itself very easily and the quantity of its pollen in the air grew a lot

I totally understand. I didn't realize how much of my allergies were from stuff in the air until we had to start wearing masks all the time. This has been the best year of my life in regards to allergies! Once in a while my eyes still swell up or I have trouble breathing but it's soooo much better now. If we ever get Coronavirus under control, I'll still keep wearing the masks!

I''m sorry to hear that you have allergies too :( But yes, what a difference that mask makes!! If it weren't for coronavirus I wouldn't have thought of wearing a mask on the street!

@andreea_v Thanks. And you're right, I never would have thought of wearing it to make my allergies better, either.
