Surstromming is a fermented Baltic Sea herring from Sweden. It is famous because of its stinky smell. Perhaps it is the most stinky food in the world.
I checked online and it is not a cheap can food. It is nearly USD25/can. I haven't tried this food before but I wonder whether someone has challenged it

@youless IKEA sells those herrings and they were part of their "Mid-Sommer Buffet" in the past. They smell bad because they are lightly salted and fermented. They smell very bad as soon as the can is opened, but the smell fades after a while.

I've eaten canned fish, but in my area canned fish is mixed with sauce in the can, so I just stir-fry it, the price is quite cheap, only $2. Canned fish is often the choice of boarding house children besides Indomie, it tastes quite good, especially when eaten with warm rice :)
