Day 97 1 Kings 17:17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him. 18 And she said unto Elijah, “What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? Art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?” 19 And he said unto her, “Give me thy son.” And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed. 20 And he cried unto the LORD, and said, “O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?” 21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, “O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.” 22 And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. 23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, “See, thy son lives. 24 And the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.” People want signs that the trouble they face will end. They want to see good days and know everything will be all right. Elijah was the prophet in Israel. He told Ahab there wouldn’t be rain because of his sin until He brought it again. Then ravens fed Elijah by the Word of the God, and he drank from the brook until it dried up. Then God sent him to a widow in Zarephath. While he was there, her son died. With all the signs she saw daily, she wanted one more to prove God was with him, and told him her son was dead. Elijah took her son and prayed to God to revive him. When He did, the woman declared that God’s Word was true in everything Elijah said. As Christians, you too look for signs that God is working among His people. You see the trouble facing your family, your city, your country, the world and you put the blame on God’s judgment. Yet, God’s judgment isn’t always to blame for your trouble. You need to seek God to determine the reason for the trouble you face. In Elijah’s case, it was God’s judgment for Ahab’s and Israel’s sin who turned away from God. How is your relationship with God? Do you spend time with Him daily, or only when you think about it? If so, you too might be facing the consequences of your actions as Israel did when they turned their back on God. If your relationship is good, then God will see you through the most trying times as He did with Elijah. People will watch you to see if your faith is true or a show for their sake. When they see your faith in action in every facet of your life, they will know God works in your life just as the widow knew God worked in Elijah’s life. Prayer will open doors you thought were locked forever. The widow’s son died and Elijah took him to his room and prayed. Death wasn’t the final answer for the widow’s son. Life was the answer. Jesus broke the chains of death in your life through His death and resurrection. Satan has no claim on your life when you walk in God’s Word daily, and seek His face through prayer. You will see life in everything you do and people will know you walk with God. Let’s pray: Father, help me stand in my faith in You in everything I do and everything I say. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 17 September 2021 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay.
