Look at what I got from the free area at work today! A package of these delicious apple cider muffins (I look forward to these showing up in the store every autumn -- so good warmed up with a little bit of butter) and a dozen eggs (made up from eggs in various other cartons that had some cracked eggs, so I have a mixture of brown and white eggs in this one).
I think I have tomorrow's breakfast all figured out now, and it didn't cost me a thing! I so like it when the store makes my meal planning easy. Too bad there wasn't any culled bacon!

There were quite a few cartons of eggs, but I only took one so others could get some too.

That would last just not one but a few breakfasts specially with that many eggs.

There are 9 people in the house. A dozen eggs doesn't go terribly far around here!

@spiderdust Feeding a large family can be very expensive.

@LadyDuck It certainly can. Sometimes even "budget" meals end up being expensive when it's for so many people.

Only if it is frozen and sold in the frozen department. The fresh meat department has an arrangement worked out with a local soup kitchen, I believe, so we never see the fresh items in the culls area. Occasionally someone from the meat department will give me a little bit of something to take home and try (like a few ounces of Wagu beef or a single sausage when they want feedback on a new seasoning), but it's a rare event.
The produce department also has someone in the local area who picks up their culled produce, but they have so much every day that employees who are willing to pick through the items in the back are welcome to have some too, but I usually don't. Besides, the produce manager occasionally will bring my department some of the better quality items that they are culling out so we can use them in production, and I can take home some of those items.
I have also sometimes gone to the back of the produce department and loaded up an empty box with produce discards to take to a friend with chickens.

It's so nice to find these things, especially since they'd otherwise end up in the trash!
