"You Need To Be More Careful"

It is no surprise to anyone that I am very clumsy. I have had my share of bumps, bruises, scrapes, sprains, and yet I have never broken a bone. So, last week I hurt my ribs because my AC unit was falling out of the window. This week I smashed my pinky finger into the washing machine. I posted about this on Facebook because the world needs to know about my pain. My friend comes along like two days later about the washing machine post saying "You seem to be accident prone." Yeah... Yeah I am. And he continues with, "You need to be more careful." which would be a meaningful sentence from some people, but from him it is very condescending because he follows it up with, "Or else you are going to end up in the hospital." I mean, yeah, I am clusmy. I have been to urgent cares because of my problems, but bumps and bruises happen. I don't to be told to be more careful when most of the problems that happen were accidents. When my AC unit was falling, the desk wasn't in my sight, so of course I slammed my ribs into it to save a very expensive item. An accident. Yeah, maybe I should have been more careful closing the washing machine lip, bu the lid slipped out of my hand, it was an accidne.t It isn't like I broke my finger. It is just bruised. I don't know, that statement just kind of irritated me. Like...I'm clusmy, I do try to be careful, most of the stuff that happens to me, it is all just based on a situation that was probably hard to prevent injury. You are talking to the girl who tore a ligament in her leg and I was just jumping, and proceeded to dislocate my knee for 7 years and most of that was just from average walking. Nothing could prevent that. I appreciate the concern, but also just don't....I'm clumsy, I got it from my mamma.

I'm sorry he felt the need to be condescending toward you. *Shakes Head* I hope you're doing well, I know it's been a while since I've commented on your posts.

@DesirousDreamer You're welcome, and I'm glad you're doing fine. I wonder how he'd feel if you did that to him lol?

@tammys85 He would not appreciate it one bit. Would most likely say things like, "You think I'm stupid?" or something of the sorts haah such a complicated human.

No, it isn't. But he sure seems to have fun being condescending, so there is that.

Thank goodness he was there to help you. I bet you never even thought about being careful before. Maybe he wanted to help but didn't know what to say. I'm also clumsy and it's not fun.

I never thought of being careful, what is that?! He isn't exactly an empathic person, that is just how he is.

You and my daughter would get along very well. She's been on disability from falling down 3 (non-steep) steps, has a scar on her middle toe from when a glass shower door fell on her foot (still don't know how she didn't injure her foot or any other toes with that one), and has stabbed herself accidentally with a plastic spork. I used to tell her to "be more careful", "watch what you're doing" until I saw her trip and fall on a flat, clear, dry surface. After that day I just realized she's very accident-prone and clumsy and now we just laugh about the things that happen to her on a daily basis.

I have fell down a bus a few times, but I think the worst time was tripping and saying I was okay to the bus driver, and my shorts fell. I was so embarrassed.

Sometimes as they say it just does not rain but pours. That could be applied in your case and reading through your post I notice it was not your fault. You are prone to accidents and asking you to be careful does not fit there. But I could wish that this does not happen to you.

A clumsy person will always wish they are not clumsy, but no matter what accidents will happen in any which way.
