Today let's talk about really old times. This is a beautiful song that was sung as a duet by Bing Crosby and Patti Page. The music was written by Richard A. Whiting with lyrics by Raymond B. Egan way back in 1918. It was written during the Great War and is a song that tells the story of a soldier parting from his sweetheart. The title of this song actually comes from the final line of the chorus:
Smile the while you kiss me sad adieu,
When the clouds roll by I'll come to you,
Then the skies will seem more blue,
Down in lovers lane my dearie,
Wedding bells will ring so merrily,
Every tear will be a memory,
So wait and pray each night for me,
Till we meet again
In 1919 the song was at number one when recorded by Henry Burr and Albert Campbell. Many other artists have recorded it among them Doris Day. The song and tune were adopted by supporters of the English football team Huddersfield Town in the 1920s and is still sung by them.
My favorite version is the one sung by Bing Crosby and Patti Page

This is the first time i’ve heard of this song. It’s nice. The kind of song that would put me to sleep.
