We were going to

We were going tto go to Sonic and have a burger last night.
When we checked the prices, we found our preferred burger had gone up to $9.00. I thought they were pricey at $6.00. This was just a burger, no fries or drinks.
We have been noticing price increases at quite a few places. It is no wonder very few people were at Sonic, and I notice a number of their drive up stalls are out of order.
I am sure the price of things they sell has gone up, but it will soon price them out of business. It seems a vicious circle.
We went instead to a Casey's convenience store and got a freshly made all meat pizza. It is enough for us to have three meals from it. Price was $16.
I believe we will make our burgers at home. We could get a full meal at Cracker Barrel for that $9.00 price. Main dish, two sides, and hot rolls. Too bad we do not have a Cracker Barrel nearby.

This is a strictly drive in place, but I agree, we cook at home much more now.

@GardenGerty We do not have drive in places here, I do not feel safe sitting at a restaurant table.

Fast Food prices are getting ridiculous...Thanks in part to the 15.00 wage requirement in a lot of places, and also supply chain interruptions due to Covid. If I can't get some kind of meal deal forget it.

Because of supply chain problems, due to strikes and unavailability of processed foods, some school districts are setting up contracts directly with farmers. I feel like that, at least, is a good thing.

Prices are increasing. There have been several stories (CNN, Vox, etc.) in the past few months about this, and the price increases have gone beyond food. Autos, clothing, lodging, and other areas have seen price hikes as well.
I haven't really noticed an increase with our favorite local restaurants, but we also haven't lived in this area for all that long. So, I don't have much of a basis for comparison. My guess is that they are either absorbing the price increases (for now) or have slightly shrunk the portion of the pricier ingredients in dishes.

I notice it in groceries a lot, but then I only do sales if possible. Next year I will have a garden again.

@GardenGerty We do a lot of sales, too, and I'm also back to supporting local producers. So, while I know that prices are going up, we haven't yet really felt the pinch of it.
My goal (still) is to have a place where I can have a proper garden. Although, I think that it will be elevated planters for me.

Yes, the days when you could get a burger for a quarter are long gone. Unfortunately, we still remember those days.

Prices of food has increased here too since the start of the pandemic. They are open with only 50% capacity which means they’re losing a lot of money and they can only continue their business if they increase their prices.

Some of the problem here is the middle man. Supply chains are disrupted so everything costs more.

Other people I've talked with were also saying burgers are getting really high now, too. We got two Casey's pizzas several months ago, a large Taco pizza and a small hamburger pizza and paid $21 for them. That's three meals for us...

Right, that pizza can go a long ways. I shopped yesterday and got some pre made burger patties, we will be making ours at home.

@DaddyEvil I do not do that for burgers, but I do mix sausage and burger for home made meat loaf. There is a small town with a local grocery that does ground pork and beef in a blend . I think I will go thaw meat for meat loaf, now that we mention it.

@GardenGerty Have you tried mixing pork sausage into your hamburger meat? I mix 1/4 lb sausage into 3/4 lb hamburger and make hamburgers from that. It's really good! (I do use the premium ground pork so there isn't very much fat that has to be drained out of the pan after cooking them.)

Yes, exactly. So, after driving 20 or so miles to get to that town, we went to the Caseys for pizza. It was very good. And it will feed us three meals.
