Don't answer this if it is too personal, but if you have been you know it is creepy and a violation of your boundaries, beyond what was taken. I have been but basically both times, I think they were kids my son knew. The only other time was some people who were harassing my co worker. I was giving him a ride home and they started in with homophobic stuff and banging on the car windows. I don't know if he was gay or not, we never discussed it,( Im not) but i t was frightening. I did not know what t whey would do, and it was about 12:30AM so scary as heck!

Fortunately, have never been attacked although one time a mugger in Mexico tried to knock our purses off our arms by running past us very close and very fast.

@LadyDuck Funny, you are the only one I have heard of attacked there. I was there once and left my wallet in a taxi cab. The taxi driver brought it back to my hotel.. I offered a reward but he would take nothing.

@snowy22315 They guys were three (in Miami), they pushed me to make me fall and grabbed my purse. I badly hit my head on the ground and I fainted, it could have been worse, I am here to remember.

I had a house once where I was only living in it at the weekends.
I was single then, and it was easier to live with my Mum still, and commute into my work from there.
People must have been watching my habits, and I was robbed.
The sad part was that I had major security on that house, window bars, and the like, but I could tell from the muddy footprints, going right through the house on the floors, and the carpet, that the kid was only young, maybe only 5, or 6 years of age.
The larger size footprints at the window that was forced open, to squeeze his kid though, showed that a parent was behind this robbery, and my large CD collection, and player, were wrapped in my expensive doona, that my mother had given to me as a housewarming present, and shoved out of the window to the waiting father.
After that robbery, I bit the bullet, and moved in full time to my house.
He was never caught of course, and probably now, his young son, is caught up in a life of crime now too, as he started at such an early age, taught by his father how to rob.

@innertalks Yes, I know what a duvet is. I was confused by the word doona, although I might have heard it before. Duvet is used here, but comforter is more common.

@snowy22315 Thanks, a doona is an Australian word for a quilt that covers a bed. It is warmer than a blanket.
I think in other countries they call it a duvet.
"A duvet is a type of bedding consisting of a soft flat bag filled with either down, feathers, wool, cotton, silk, or a synthetic alternative, and is typically protected with a removable cover, analogous to a pillow and pillow case." Wikipedia

I have been the victim of crime on more than one occasion. Each time, I felt like I was the one being treated like a criminal and not taken seriously. Years ago, we had some items stolen from our garden. Despite the thieves being known to the police and us providing evidence, we were told nothing could be done. That was just one incident. Thankfully, I've never been a victim of violent crime or anything like that. The most worrying thing for me is knowing that the people who are supposed to protect you choose not to believe you.

@snowy22315 there was evidence, the police just chose not to do anything. They decided that because they personally hadn't seen it with their own eyes that nothing could be done. I was also the victim of fraud once, yet I was the one punished despite providing proof that the other people were lying.

@pumpkinjam That is too bad,,I have been lucky with that, and my bank and or credit card company has backed me up. One of the times though when my account was charged it took forever to get the money back..They had to "investigate it" although even the motel that charged the card admitted they make a mistake from the get go.

They might have believed you, but like you said without evidence there is little they can do. We called them out about the boat incident, without someone actually seeing something they couldn't do anything, or I guess I should say wouldn't do anything.

Yes, it is the violation as much as what is taken.

That is scary.
Yes, I have been and the person who trashed my home was never found. Not long ago, I found out my older son was involved in the crime, even though he wasn't there, he was with us for my grandson's first birthday party, so I didn't know he was part of what happened.

I was once held up at a gasoline station working as a cashier on the midnight shift when a customer fired a shot at the bulletproof window after not paying for his gasoline bill.

I got into the company car at the last moment for official work.
I shared it to get dropped at an office.
There were some labor issues and a few accosted the car and soon I was injured from a sharp stone thrown at the Director who was with me.
It could have even killed me but I got away without major injury.
I dread to recall that incident that happened nearly fifty years ago

My family was robbed a few years ago. The (insert whatever cuss word you want to use) even reached over a baby crib (with the child in it) to grab an Ipad.
They were really silent and managed to rob us with 7 adults in the house and 4 dogs. I am still on edge about it.
My eldest was a victim of multiple types of abuse at the hands of a significant other. And before anyone asks, yes she said I could post it. She actually has used the experience to help others who are in the same position and follows the it didn't kill me it made me stronger mind set.
