An Unacceptable Acceptance

Surviving a traumatic brain injury, I regularly go through the stages of grief. On another grief-cycle recently, I confronted the fact that I am 'denied' many of people's lives' typical landmarks (I'm mostly thinking of dating, marriage, children; but there's other ones I don't get to experience---best-friendhood, promotion up the corporate-ladder); And I don't get to experience those--not 'because I can't handle those responsibilities'--but "BECAUSE I'M NOT WITH THE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO SHARE THOSE EXPERIENCES WITH ME ... I can't get there to be there when someone is needed!" This is something very-regrettable about my situation, but it tells me something about ALL people (whether they're in a situation like mine or not). Kind of like Chuck speculated about 'the time when he & Sara thought they were both about to explode, and she pulls him into a giant kiss as the timer runs out and they discover it wasn't a bomb': "{the guy that the girl chooses to be with} is just 'the guy who happened to be there when the girl was ready to settle down!'" No matter HOW "deserving" a potential wife knows I am, the guy she marries will be 'whoever can be "where she is" when she's ready to settle down.'
