Do you journal?

I've been keeping a journal for almost forty years now.
I don't write every day, but I don't have a great memory, so I love to look back at things I've forgotten.
It's also been a good record of illnesses and medical issues.
And all the funny and cute things our kids and grands have done.
Some sad entries also, like when our son's wife Rachelle died suddenly while their son Nathan was a baby. Lots of entries helping raise him while his dad was working.
My husband and I had careers, retired, watched as our two children had marriages that worked, then didn't. Our son is a single dad to Nathan, but our daughter seems to finally have a good marriage.
A lot of life, good and not so good, has happened since I started keeping a journal.
Do you write in a diary or journal?
The photo is my latest one.

I am looking for another site to share my journals since Deviantart is giving me a hard time writing journals at this time due to a site malfunction.

I do. I have several journals. But this year, i switched to digital journaling. It’s very similar to paper journals because i can write on it like i would on a paper using an apple pen, i can also decorate it with stickers and washi tapes and attach photos.

@1creekgirl maybe I should, as we get older it gets harder and harder to remember things.

I seem to be better at writing my feelings than talking about them. Could you start a new journal?

That is a nice thing you have done. I rely on photos both hard copies and digital and that takes me back

I tried to do it off and on over the years, but I could never keep it up if I'm being honest. I still have a few online accounts floating around.

@1creekgirl Yep. I'll get motivated to start one, then eventually wonder away from it.

@1creekgirl Although I kept it, I didn't want to read the contents, because I was very young at that time. Now I feel that the things written at that time were quite childish

@1creekgirl Time by time my husband asks "do you remember on which month and year...?" I check my diaries and I can reply.

Interesting question. I think I started writing a journal when I was in high school. My Mom also wrote in a journal. One of my sisters has Mom's journals. I have tons of journals around my house now and yes it is fascinating to look back even five years ago and check on that me and me's world.

@1creekgirl The whole thing about family is interesting. I only have one daughter and she has no kids. Maybe as I get older I will have a huge bonfire and thank the Powers that Be for my life and call it done.

When my Mom was still alive, we liked to note the birds we saw. We bought books of Hawaii birds, discussed about it, till she got frail. I kept my journal.of birds, till the birds I noticed just repeated. When Mom passed, I was very melancholy, so my colleague, suggested, keeping a journal like speaking to her but in writing instead...it helped. Mom was a bit of a camera buff, she had a Kodak Stereo Viewer and slides I view from time to time. So not exactly a journal, but a picture journal my Mom created, brings me close to family, most gone now. Your journal is filled with sweet memories & photos, wonderful!

I took Creative Writing in grade 10. We were required to keep a journal. I have been writing in a journal ever since, though not very consistently. Some were typed (when I was bored at work) so they are actually in binders. I have a full tote full of my journals, plus a file storage box (which is almost full). I kept separate journals like a prayer journal, a gratitude journal and journals on the funny things my kids did and said and their accomplishments. I wish I had started that one sooner and didn't forget to write in it. I also began a journal the week my father passed and kept track of everything that I went through as well as lthe dreams (visitations) that followed. Unfortunately I lapsed on that. There have been a few of those since my mother passed which I wish I had written in there but I forget those books are there. I could still write them now but I would like them dated.
I started the separate journals so that I would know where to find certain details. I'm kicking myself for forgetting to write in them.

It is nice to have a diary but I stopped updating my diary when I started to work a long time ago. I`m not sure anymore if I want to start again but your journal is nice.

I always wished I had journaled over the years. It must be nice to be able to go back and see what's happened both good and bad. So many things I've forgotten and a journal would be nice to read now.
