My Kingdom for Some Decent Fruit

i have been watching what I eat lately because I just found out my triglycerides are very high. So the doctor told me what fruits, and meats I should be eating. Not to long ago I got some cantaloupe and it was nice and ripe and tasted so great. Now I can't find any that are even close to what the other one was. The ones I find now aren't soft and juicy, they're hard with no flavor and hard to chew. So today I thought I'd try again but before I try to eat them I need to know 2 things. First, at the store how can I tell if they're ripe and how do I get them to ripen once I get them home. I've heard you should put them in a paper grocery bag because they ripen faster in the dark but it didn't work when I tried that. And like I just said I don't know how to tell if they're ripe so how would I even be able to take them out of the bag and realize if they are ripe?

I read on the internet that you cut it and put it in the microwave for 12 seconds. All that did was give me warm unripened cantaloupe. but beside doing that and letting it ripen on the counter. Next time I will try putting it in a brown paper bag. They said if you have another piece of fruit in the bag with it it will ripen much faster

I finally ate it today. I just left it on the counter to ripen and it was actually pretty good.

As long as they are not green I buy them and they are always good.

I cannot always get fresh fruit but since I order my groceries online once a month I thought I would order some plums, Wouldn't you know it there were no plums available in the store, SIGH I found this online for you
As with cantaloupe, color is your first sign of ripeness. The melon's green rind will take on a creamy yellowish color. If the color is right, gently push on the end of the melon opposite from the stem. If there is a slight give, the melon is probably ripe.
