Kiss them Goodbye!

Took a photo a couple of days ago of my geraniums. The expected rain and thunderstorms later will overwater them, yet again. The first frost, when it ever gets here, will polish them off for good. They are annuals here. I could bring them inside the house and have them look straggly, but why bother? It is what it is. Live or die, they’ve been a pleasant addition this summer. Are you sad to see the flowers go?

I don't like geraniums but that is what my aunt brought my this spring so that is what I put in my planters outside the door. I will bring them inside to get a bit of color and greenery inside. someone here told me that they will do fine inside. I also will bring in my pot of basil and keep that going for as long as I can. The mums will be tossed once they die.

@DianneN I have geraniums as house plants, but you're right they do sometimes stain the windowsills.

Being in an apartment, I don't have any plants beyond cat grass. Technically, I could, but there two reasons why that might not be a good idea.

I hate to see them like that, I would probably build a wood frame with screen to put on top of them to give them a fighting chance

I suppose I miss the flowers during the autumn/winter months. I did plant some lovely purple mums which will be colorful for a while still.

Well, mine all went down the drain when it got hot and dry then a few cropped back up with the weeds when the rains started. I want to put sunflower seeds out for next spring .... at least I hope to.

@DianneN lol no really it is just the way my life is, I’m not upset or bitter. I was late this year planting and then I was gone. I’m here with Al and he is my life. I am going to go away overnight so I will get to enjoy the fall weather in Sturbridge.

A bit, but like you I know that's just the way it is for those ones. Off to the compost heap they go, to be recycled into food for next year's flowers

Flowers are pretty, and yours are beautiful. However, the cool weather, the change of colors bring a smile to my face as my favorite season approaches.

Ah yes. I have a hard time uprooting the plants - flowers or vegetables, but when they're done, they're done. The plants know the seasons. I thank them for serving their purpose . I like your planters

Geraniums are popular here in Switzerland, but I never liked the annual variety. I have only orchids inside the house.

@DianneN The reason why I do not plant them it is because they stink. I planted one year as they told me that they keep away the mosquitoes, but it was not at all true, there are no plants that keep mosquitoes away from me. I have roses, gladioli, a gardenia and other flowers in the garden. I cut yesterday the last roses of this year.

I won’t be planting geraniums anymore. The rain ruins them and they stink. We only keep cut flowers in the house due to usually being in Florida.

Most of mine moved back into the house about a week ago because of the cold morning temps we've been getting. They would've already been gone.

@DianneN So does that mean next year you have to start all over again to plant or replant them? I do not have a garden so do not worry about what to do with them till next year.

Yes, I will have to start all over again next year. I enjoy gardening more than ever. It’s fun to pick what you need for dinner. Btw, hubs and I just started Maid. Love it so far and will watch it more tonight.
