Honesty is the best policy. Is it?

We see this dictum in many public buses. I've wondered why it is painted in buses for all passengers to see. Many , of course , don't notice it. Many , I think, don't know how to read it. Perhaps it is to encourage passengers to pay their fare honestly. But in the world and in our daily life we find few people who believe in this dictum. This morning I spent half an hour with a colleague friend. He told in vivid terms how dishonesty is the way of life these days. People want to get rich quickly and they don't hesitate in choosing dishonesty for this end. Even NGOs claiming to do charity, are not trusted because people running them quite often are dishonest in handling donations. It's quite disconcerting to me because I am associated with an NGO, though I am not in the administration.

I think you'll have to look at each separate person to determine their degree of honesty. In my opinion, most people try to be honest... although, that honesty can be tested and, if enough reason is behind it, the person will be dishonest. (Pretend for a minute... I'm an honest man who has children to feed. I've lost my job... and haven't found work for a while. I see someone drop a large amount of money on the ground. Do I call that person's attention to the money or do I pick it up and feed my children?) I believe everyone has a breaking point. Some take longer to reach that breaking point than others. (I've seen a person, wealthy, see someone else drop a one dollar bill on the ground by accident and start walking away. Someone else sees the bill lying on the ground, so picks it up and asked the wealthy man if he dropped it. He said it was his...) Some people are dishonest by nature, I think.

People ethics and moral should be strong to decide what to do or not to do! Initially parents teach children about truth and being honest. Day by day we learn from our surroundings by analyzing and experiencing. People with good heart avoid unfaithful activity. We should teach our youngers about honesty rewards and dishonesty consequences by social awareness, cartoons, story telling and so on. Though literate society enhancing and digital world is spreading, crime and corruption increasing too. All need to be supervise or control by our government team (polish force, army) as well as by us as general public. We altogether can make it possible to become a crimefree world !

I think there are still more honest people than those who are not honest.
