Leaking overflow

I woke up the other morning to the sound of dripping from the overflow pipe outside the front of my house. It's happened before and usually means the float in the cold water tank is either stuck or needs replacing. "Don't worry" shouts my friend, "I can fix it." The tank is in the attic so after spending some time hauling himself up there he starts to "fix" it. Two hours later he comes down and I check the overflow .. still dripping! It's not that I don't appreciate him trying but I think I'm going to get a plumber in.

Get someone before to have your home flooded.

Yes I've already called someone but it will take a week before they can come out. I explained what was happening and they said it was unlikely to come through the ceiling.

@LadyDuck I've had water damage in my home before. When I first moved into this house the person before me had not secured the u-bend in the bathroom sink and water poured through the floor and through the kitchen ceiling. It made such a mess.

It costs so much to call a plumber out these days but water can do so much damage.

@RebeccasFarm I don't think I had any water damage in my previous house but this one has been a nightmare. I've had two ceilings ruined from water leakage.

I couldn't sleep last night as I was worried water would pour through the ceiling. I'm assured that won't happen and that's why we have an overflow pipe.
