So, I thought I had seen everything in terms of mystery shopping until today. So, this apartment complex monitors the exterior of the units with closed circuit TV. (I hope not the interior)) Whoa.. What??? I mean it isn't like they are in a high crime area or something. I wonder who's brilliant idea that was? Maybe some people would have a sense of security with that, but the resident manager only works during the day...I would think that if something were going to happen it would be more likely at night. I could possibily monitoring the office, if no one was there..but the grounds and the units? I would never move to a place like that..no matter what the rent was. That is an invasion of privacy in my book. What say you?

Yeah, it can be too much. Besides if you are paying high tolls, you are probably paying indirectly, to spy on yourself..

@snowy22315 It was annoying, I know that it's because they said it was the safest city in the world, but it was annoying. We paid nothing, you do not pay taxes in Monte Carlo.

That is one reason I moved from my former area. I felt like I was living in a fishbowl with people hanging around outside all the time and possibly looking in.. I mean they were nice enoughresponsible..homeowners and all that..but I don't want to feel obliged to interact with others if I don't feel like it.

@RebeccasFarm I never saw a place where everyone was hanging around outside all the time, like they were besties. Nothing but go to work and hang out in the hood. I just didn't fit in there, but that is pretty much everywhere I guess...

@rebelann No, I doubt they would do that...but they could see whether or not you were drinking or how you and your guests were behaving. I don't think they need to be looking at all that. I mean maybe it isn't that big of a deal..but I don't feel like providing entertainment for a bored staff member.

This is becoming more and more standard with each passing year. Many apartment complexes, neighborhoods, business districts and private homes have security cameras now. There doesn't have to be someone monitoring them, they will record and save the footage to be reviewed later if need be. In years past this may have been considered an invasion of privacy, but these days it is acceptable and encouraged as a means of safety.

I know that they do, but as for me personally, having someone monitor my comings and goings is not cool. I wouldn't live in a place that uses that. I mean maybe a discrete camera or two that can montior the development but not security cameras all the time. It isn't a bank or motel. They are people's homes. They should be able to monitor them as they see fit.

@moffittjc That is you, I have the right to my opinion as well. What I do in my private time is no one's business as long as I am not hurting anyone...they don't need to know. I mean I can see it possibly in an area where theft or property crimes are an issue, but they aren't everywhere. Here in the country, I promise you there aren't surveillance camera's everywhere, only in some local businesses, or security cams people may have installed, not everyone has them. I have a security cam here, but it has yet to be installed.

@snowy22315 We're under surveillance pretty much anywhere and everywhere we go these days. If someone wants to watch me, then by all means watch me. It doesn't bother me.

It appears that Big Brother is making his moves to watch us like hawks in the near future taking away our right to privacy.

Yes, in some ways its good, but in or near your home you should have the right to be as private as you want to be.

@Deepizzaguy Likewise, when you pay for a places, as long as you aren't doing anything wrong, you should be entitled to it.

Now a days you can't really trust anyone. It's always good idea to have cameras, at least on the exterior, to catch crime. Those cameras still recored, even if no one is watching them, and if someone does say report a broken car, or theift, then the info will be avaible for police.

See if you live in a rural area.with nice homes..that type of thing rarely happens, at least not here. There have been very few break ins..and no cars that anyone has mentioned. I understand why it could be good, but it goes too far when they are spying on you on your patio. That is your private space. I would be more in favor if they just monitored cars coming in and out or something and that was it.

I feel like every place should have security cameras, no one is going to care if you are caught picking your nose, they are looking for possible crime, theft, a lot of people are doing Ring cameras where if any movement happens in front of their door they can see who was there. I would like one because I hate answering the door and if I can see who is as the door before answering, that would give a sense of comfort. It is really good for Porch poachers who like to steal stuff and I feel like that can be important for apartment buildings since there are so many people around they could steal something that is outside the person's door.

IN all honesty, if someone doesn't like you, they may be looking for evidence against you. That sort of thing happens more than you might realize. I realize what the intent is, but I wouldn't like it personally.

Having a home and living in an apartment complex where a stranger is monitoring your actvites are two different things. I am all for having a security camera I can monitor..not a stranger looking at me. and my neighbors. I just wouldn't feel comfortable with that. I mean, people having to check into a security gate would be better...that is oK with me.
