Thinking about finally making fruitcake

I always thought that fruitcake was gross but then I saw a holiday episode of Iron Chef America with host Alton Brown's "Free Range Fruitcake" as the featured ingredient. You have to make it at least 2 weeks in advance and then brush it with dark rum every few days. I usually think to make it when there isn't enough time to do that.
I'm way ahead of myself now though this year. The Aged Egg Nog is already made and aging in the fridge . Now I have time to make the fruitcake. The thing is that, much like the egg nog, this is going to be an expensive recipe to make. It requires raisins, dried currants, dried cranberries, dried cherries, dried blueberries, dried apricots, and candied ginger. . . none of which I have. There are a bunch of other ingredients that I will have to buy including gold rum and brandy.
I've already spent enough money on food this week. Maybe this will be a project for next weekend.

I didn’t know people actually ate fruitcake! I always thought they just re-gift it to someone else each year at Christmas!

I love a good fruitcake. Amazon has some mixed dried fruit by Pennant that's good:

I do not eat fruitcake very often. When it comes out in a grocery store; I normally just buy it once.
