Cashless games!

October 29, 2021 6:49pm CST
Where will the madness end?! We now have cashless Monopoly. This was an extremely popular game in my youth, though board games are not popular now as kids like video games much more. The Monopoly game I have here is a cashless one. This means that no physical notes change hands at all during gameplay, which is a real shame. I enjoy the cash handling and seeing the physical money. Do you think companies go too far with the cashless element to games? Do you prefer the new versions of games or the old ones?

@Danielclark691 We'd put money in the pot at the beginning of any game, even card games, and in the end winner takes all.

We have this and yes I like it because then my kids are not taking the play money everywhere and losing it or eating it like they did as toddlers. I’m always losing game piece because the kids will places them all over the house so I likes where it didn’t have many pieces or they can lose them. We have the hungry hippos that has a dome over it can you can’t lose those little balls inside there. It’s travel size but I liked the dome.

@Danielclark691 the card holds the money like a credit card. It’s hard to replace paper money or tiney people around a house when there is 3 kids and one of you. I would rather a card. I’d km going to teach my kids about cash I would give them the real deal which they do have for like when the ice cream truck comes or when there birthdays come around and they want to buy a toy.

the game pieces still exist. It is just the cash that is missing. I suppose there are advantages to card in society, but not in this game.

I prefer the old version with the cash, it is just not the same without your cash pile to build up.

Maybe they are just trying to keep up with the times?

I never heard of cashless games before. My kids play video games but one daughter also has a load of games we used to play when young and she gets together monthly with friends too play them.

it is such a shame that the old board games have made way for video games etc.

I like Monopoly, but I don't think I would like this version. I prefer handling money.

It doesn't appeal to me at all. Handling cash is more fun. And what are you supposed to do when the card reader breaks, as anything handled by kids is bound to?
