Eight days until daylight savings time ends and I’m already sick of autumn. Aw, well, we always complain about the weather….can’t wait for the heat to go, then when it’s cold we want the hot weather back. Time to stop monkeying around with the complaints! And time to monkey around with another song with “monkey” in the title, a countdown suggested by @DocAndersen (and I’m wondering if he’s regretting it by now…). Here’s today’s tune.
#3: Monkey Dance - T-Bone Burnett
John Henry Burnett is best known as a record producer. His works include albums by the BoDeans, Los Lobos, Marshall Crenshaw, Elvis Costello, and Elton John. In other words, lots of my favorites. He won a Grammy for his production work on the soundtrack to O Brother, Where Art Thou. Oh, and he co-wrote a song with Warren Zevon. So, of course I’m going to include him!
Burnett is such an underrated songwriter, compounded by the fact that he’s such a highly-acclaimed producer, that his own music tends to get lost in the mix. Thanks to his work with Zevon, I got to know Burnett’s music before he became THE go-to Americana producer.
Here T-Bone puts the typical sex-not-love story in a fabulous way (“she knows his lies are barefaced as she descends the staircase, her clothes are falling off her, he can’t resist her offer”).
I really wish his music was as well-known as his production skills. Both are exceptional.

Thanks!
There’s no limit to the weird stuff I’ve listened to. Some only once (e.g., “Ex-Lax for Cheryl Tiegs” by John Trubee and the Ugly Janitors of America), but I’ve listened to it!!!

I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone of Music. I'll pass on this one. As far as the weather goes, I had to wear a jacket when we went out on Friday. I was not a happy camper. I hate this weather!
