Red radishes. Yum!

red radish salad

I love red radishes and eat them on a regular basis. I can add them as an ingredient into a salad or I can make them the star of the dish. One of the ways I enjoy red radishes is by slicing them into circles and then adding to them some sliced scallions and fresh herbs like cilantro, Italian or curly parsley, or dill—whatever I happen to have at home at the time. I sprinkle some sea salt and roasted sesame seeds, and add some extra virgin olive oil. If I happen to have watercress or cress at home I add it as well. This salad tastes delicious. In this picture, I didn't have fresh herbs so added dried parsley flakes instead. I sometimes add Honey Crisp or Ginger Gold apples to this salad. If I do that then I cut them in the same shape. They go great together. I can eat this salad with an omelet or open up a can of sardines. Healthy and delicious!

That's interesting... Mom always served them when I was a kid... They are too sharp for me. I felt like they were biting me back so didn't eat them.

I just could not, for whatever reason, ever get into radishes. And I still can't. But I won't use that as an opportunity to knock you for eating them and enjoying them.

I love them with sour cream! Like what I did above I will add sour cream instead of olive oil. Maybe thrown in a diced cucumber in there.

We cut them like potato chips, dip them in salt pepper and lime juice...dry them in sun ..like amla (gooseberry I think). Works for eating when we are not having anything interesting around, and feel like a much. Somebody told me you can make fritters with this. I will try that.

@lovebuglena I hardly go to restaurants. I love home made food. At the most, I pick up the takeaways. So yeah, I do not know if our restaurants have these. If so, I would wonder from where they procure them. I have not seen them even in the best groceries out here.

That picture first of all is very pretty and it's making me hungry. I usually have radishes in a side salad or eat them just plain. Actually when I was a child I used to take2 pieces of lightly buttered bread and then slice a bunch of radishes nice and thin and made it into a sandwich. The salad you described sounds really good and I'm definitely gonna try that.

Red radish taste good and whenever we get it, we make salad out of it. Although, in our area, we do not get red reddish that often, we generally get white radish in the market and we consume that one mostly.

@lovebuglena Baby onions, basically when the onions come up with only a small bulb and a shoot. They are sold in stores in bunches. You can take them and plant them if you want and they will grow to full maturity.

It is rare that I find them in stores but I've tried radishes that are the same shape as red radishes but they are purple or white. Love them. I also love daikon radish. I usually shred that up and add sea salt, roasted sesame seeds, and fresh herbs. Then add mayo. And if I have at home I add some crispy fried onions and maybe some tongue or beef salami. Sometimes I fry up some bacon and add it to the daikon instead.
