Chilly weather chili

Today in eastern North Carolina was a typical fall day...sunny, a little cool, warm enough to open the house windows, but not cold enough tonight for any heat.
It was a perfect day for a pot of chili con carne with rice and crackers. I love to put some crushed red pepper, shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream on top.
How do you make chili if you do?

Your chili sounds delicious!
Apparently, with the cooler weather descending upon us, everybody in the US has decided to make chili. Every time I've been to the grocery store over the past week, they are sold out or nearly sold out of chili beans, chili sauce and other chili ingredients.
I have no one particular way of making chili. I used to judge chili cook-offs, so I learned over the years to appreciate numerous styles of chili. So these days, I will go online for recipes, and what I search for usually depends on what kind of chili I'm in the mood for. The most recent chili I made was made with venison given to me by a girl at work.

That's cool! We have an official chili judge on myLot. I always use venison and add a little pork sausage.

@1creekgirl Well, I'm not certified anymore, it's been years since I've judged any competitions, but I guess you could call me an officially retired chili judge! lol

I make it like you do I imagine. I rarely have sour cream in the house, but I love it.
I also put the hot flakes in it.

@RebeccasFarm Mine is probably too mild for Josh, but too hot for my husband. I like it medium hot.

Well, if you say so, lol. But homemade is sooo easy. Just fry hamburger til it's browned and chopped, add two cans of Hunt's tomato sauce, a little water, a can of red kidney beans (or not), some salt, pepper, chili powder, onion if you want and simmer about thirty minutes.
Then you can add your Cheez-Its.

I'm so glad to see you! How have you been? We use venison in place of beef, especially now that beef is so awfully expensive. I'm very thankful my husband hunts.

I was out in Raleigh visiting my brother at the end of September and the weather there was high 70's. What a difference a month and a half makes Fall has arrived here as chilly weather and all the fallen leaves in my yard can attest

I love Raleigh, so many trees and little hills for such a large city. But I sure couldn't drive in it!

The weather sounds wonderful and somewhat similar to what we are having in India today. A little more cooler than what you are talking. This is the season of all those Bajji's and Vada's (South Indian Sides).
I have not eaten chili in my life. I am adding it to my list of things to try out. Next time i'm out, i'll try to find a place where they serve good chili. Have fun

If you have the chain restaurant Chili's,, it should be good there. If you ever want to make it yourself, pm me and I'll tell you how I make it. It's easy.

I use ground beef and red kidney beans in my chili.
My hubby and I canned tomatoes last year, and we put the spices right into the jars so that they would already be seasoned when we use them as we only use them for chili. It cuts down on alot of mess adding this and that, I do use my garlic press and add a bit of fresh garlic to the pot.
We do like a little sprinkle of shredded cheese on top of ours, and of course a slice of bread on the side.

@1creekgirl Thanks.
They do sell spiced, diced tomatoes in cans, so we took that approach when we canned ours.

That's a great idea to add the spices first and I'm sure fresh canned tomatoes are much better than store bought.

That sounds good. Do you like rice with yours? I'm the only one in my family who doesn't like rice with chili.

We don't use the crushed red pepper, cheese or sour cream. Meals on Wheels had White Chicken Chili on Friday. It was quite good.
