Christmas time again.

On the way home, my husband, George, told me he saw some of our neighbors decorating for Christmas. I know it's a bit early, we haven't reached Thanksgiving yet, but apparently some people have decided to get into the Christmas mood early.
Don't get me wrong, I love christmas and all the decore that goes with it. I'm just not used to seeing it in people's homes, this early.
Growing up, most people (my family included) used the Thanksgiving Holiday to decorate for christmas,===. Back then, Thanksgiving meant something. Now it doesn't seem to anymore.
Oh well. I look forward to December when my husband will take me out in the van to look at lights. That's the only good thing about it getting so dark so soon.

For me Christmas is a bit of a depressing time, Having good memories helps and last year I put out my little tree and some lights so perhaps I will do that again and then sit down and watch all the Christmas videos I have. Back in Latvia, we had three days of Christmas because Dec 26 was our Second Christmas so I will also light some scented candles.

I know it can be a hard time for some people. I know when I lost my parents, my first Christmases without them was hard. Same my second year here, after losing my cat, Precious, our first January here in our house. So, I can fully understand. Hold onto the good memories, those are what will get you through.

@nitirrbb7 I am all alone and I have many memories of Christmases with my husband and soul mate who I lost in 2917 and of my childhood Christmases

That isn't so bad. I'm guessing you also don't celebrate Halloween, or an equalivant thereof?

@kaylachan Halloween is more known here and celebrated as well but not all. Usually some villages, schools, and malls

I love seeing the lights, watching Christmas movies and hearing the holiday music. If we could have ours up all year (and now that we own a home, we probably could) we would.
Over the years, I've seen greed growing andIt's heartbreaking to see holidays hold no meaning anymore.

@just4him I think my husband goes through the process only to have something to do. He doesn't really like to sit still.

It would be fun watching all those lights, just like we have here on Diwali. Yeah festival don't have that much enthusiasm left in it as it use to be.

Yeah, there was a time the spirit of the holidays meant something. It was magical. Such a good feeling.

There isn't as much money to be made off Thanksgiving as there is Christmas. So, it is treated as expendable.

Grocery stores benifit from it, because it's a food-rich holiday. Other stores benifit more for christmas, because it covers everything else. While Thanksgiving feels like it's getting forgotten (most recently coined grey theresday) I was just surprised a little when my husband said he started seeing decorations in private homes. Sure, our local Mall starts work around this time each year, but constructing what they do takes time and they have to work around people.

@kaylachan Been awhile since I am working in the BPO company and mostly we follow US time. I remember so clearly with my first job, we get to celebrate the Thanksgiving as well. When I moved to another company, we celebrate it but unlike the first job.
