Tesla and Edison

I once read an article that the inventor of the lamp wasn't actually Thomas Alfa Edison, but he just published it and got royalties for it. On the other hand, I've read that Edison once challenged Nikola Tesla to fix a generator that often broke down in exchange for huge money if Tesla succeeded. But in fact when Tesla succeeded, Edison even said he was just kidding. Do you think Edison deserves to be called a scientist?
