busy few weeks

It has been a busy few weeks. For those who didn't read I got a job at my son's school. I was assigned to a kindergarten class. My job is primarily to help one student but I often help with all. Ironically I'm in my son's former kindergarten teacher's classroom. The first week was a bit tough but I got the hang of it. I was super nervous the first couple of days. I slowly got the hang of what it was I had to do. I actually really like my job. I love working with the kids and the little boy I'm assigned to is a pretty awesome kid who just needs some extra help. I naively thought my job was originally only to help him but I soon found out my job entitles more even though he is my priority I often help with a bit of everything. I have been learning what to do in a lot of situations by observing. Last Friday the kids had a sub in gym and the gym teacher had no clue how to really handle them. I had to step in and get after some kids because they were walking all over her. I felt bad for her especially when she didn't think they were that bad because she had a group of fifth graders that were worse. Much like my first week, the kids tested her. Kids like to see what you'll allow them to get away with which is why my first week was so hard. Now they know I won't tolerate a lot of their behavior and I'm also learning what works with which kids. I met a lot of kids and I learned that a few of the kids in my classroom are younger siblings of my son's friends. My son is in fifth grade and he enjoys hanging out with me before school. The kindergarten teacher can't get over how huge he is now. She says she feels like he should still be in her class and I agreed I felt the same. It helps that I know so many of the teachers there already because of my son. My boss is a lady I was on the PTO with so I already knew her and her twins are in my son's grade. Then Friday my den (I'm a den leader for those who don't already know) played capture the flag with the boy scouts and had a blast. My son especially loved it. Then yesterday our cub scout pack was in our local holiday parade that they play live on the news every year. I found out a couple of the kindergartners I see at lunch and recess all the time are in our pack. I work with Webelos II so I don't know most of the younger scouts. I know a couple of the younger siblings but that's about it. The boys had a fun time handing out candy and were super popular among their friends who were watching. I heard my son's name called out several times and mine was called out a couple too. One was a call for candy so I tossed them some. My son's birthday was also last week so we did some stuff for that and his birthday party is coming up soon. I had to make out invites. I never knew my son had so many friends until he had to narrow down a list to 11. I feel bad that he couldn't invite everyone but he just has too many friends for that. We were only able to get two bowling lanes that can only have six bowlers a piece. So as I said it was a crazy busy week. I only have two days of work this coming week so we'll see how it goes since the kids know they're about to go on Thanksgiving break.

Thank you, it has gotten better for the most part and yeah they will which is why the first week working with kids always seems to be the hardest.
