As has been happening for the last 20 odd years at least, we will be spending four or five nights over New Year with seven good friends.
For dinner on New Year’s Eve, the hosts are going to do the main course and Vin and I will do an entrée. Others will do dessert and nibbles. The courses will be spread out over the evening. Now that we are older, we’ll probably collapse into bed at about 12.10 am but at least we will have seen the New Year in.
We had a practise at making the entrée today and it should be really acceptable. We lined muffin tins with plastic wrap then layered smoked salmon, and avocado/tomato salsa. It was refrigerated overnight then turned out onto a plate and topped with two prawns.
The photo isn’t the best but I’d taken a chunk out of it before I remembered I wanted to photograph it. It tasted better than it looks.

So you buy salmon and prawn that are ready to eat?
Do you take turns hosting or is it at the same house every year?

The smoked salmon is ready to eat. Sometiimes we buy raw prawns and sometimes cooked prawns.
We used to hire a house for a few days or sometimes we hosted it but there were 11 of us so it was lot to find beds for. The last few years there has only been 9 or us and one family is happy for us to go to their house each year. They have a holiday home with 5 bedrooms each with ensuite so it is ideal for us.

@merrybelle2021 No. They have 3 adult sons with families so it gets a fair bit of use.

Your plate looks like an appetizing entree. The parsley makes a wonderful garnishing.
A happy tradition you and your better half has carried on. It's the cheer we bring others by spending the loveliest season of the year with them that counts.
Here's to Christmas and the love we bear for our fellow man.

@JudyEv That gives me the idea of planting my own parsley, too. Thank you very much.

@eileenleyva It's nice to be able to just go out and snip off what you need.

@JudyEv It is simple but very good. There are some dishes that look sophisticated and they are not.
Yesterday evening I made a creamy soup with fennels, potatoes, fresh dill and smoked salmon, a bit of sour cream on top soon before serving.

I don't usually make it to midnight on New Year's Eve. I know you're a day or two older than I am.
I hope nobody has a seafood allergy at your party. I wouldn't be able to eat your entrée. I'm allergic to seafood. But it does look good.

@JudyEv That's good.
I used to LOVE eating scallops. If I eat one now, I may as well head straight to the ER. My tongue and throat will start swelling immediately. *sigh*

@DaddyEvil That would be very scary. I have a vague allergy to something. Occasionally when we have Chinese food, an hour or two later I might have some welts on my face. Once my lips starting to swell and go numb so that was a bit worrying.

@oahuwriter Yes, some things we have to wait quite some time for them to come from overseas.

Indeed! America is having shipping concerns, so supply concerns follow. Is it same at Australia?

that sounds like what we call a progressive dinner in the us but normally we go to multiple houses for each of the courses.

@DocAndersen They are fun times. We could probably organise one here in the village once we've been here a bit longer. We could walk to each other's places quite easily.

That looks good. I hope that your get together is lovely. We may stay home this year. We use to go to his Mom and Dad's to ring in the new year. Last year his sister spent the night with her. If we happen to stay in we may or may not be awake to ring in the new year.
