Day 169
Psalm 36:1 (To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD.) The transgression of the wicked says within my heart, there is no fear of God before his eyes.
2 For he flatters himself in his own eyes until his iniquity is found to be hateful.
3 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good.
4 He devises mischief upon his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he abhors not evil.
5 Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reaches unto the clouds.
6 Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preserve man and beast.
7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! Therefore, the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.
10 O continue thy lovingkindness unto them who know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me.
12 There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not rise.
We all know people who believe they are above the law and think nothing can touch them. They serve only themselves.
David described their behavior as people who put themselves above God. For all his deceit and mischief, David knew God would cast them down. David knew those who put their trust in God would receive God’s mercy and faithfulness. He prayed for God to continue his lovingkindness to him and keep those who practiced evil far from him.
As Christians, you know compromise runs rampant inside the walls of the church. You’re asked to tolerate those who practice evil and come against everything you believe. People call those who stand with God, unwavering in their faith and convictions, fanatics, and narrow-minded. David’s prayer for God to continue to show His lovingkindness to him should be your prayer. When you show yourself faithful to God, He will show Himself faithful to you.
Dare to stand for God, unwavering in your faithfulness to Him. When you do, He will show His faithfulness to you.
Let’s pray: Father, help me live for You, unwavering in my faith, knowing You will show Yourself faithful to me when I put my trust in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The description of the wicked in vss 1-4 is so characteristic of the age we live in today.
