"Ignorance is the result of inertia. "
I remember reading that line somewhere, but it is only now that it strikes home. Perhaps it is because I met a man recently who was complaining about how he never got "the chance to get educated." He blamed his "bad luck" on the fact that he was born into a poor family.
I saw it differently. I believe his ignorance is the result of massive inertia. Granted he comes from a background of poverty and that he never finished senior high when still a young lad. However, it is also true that any other men never finished senior high and still went on to be successful.
The difference between him and succesful men coming from exactly the same kind of poverty is inertia. While he sat back and did little to improve himself, the other shook off the inertia and did something for themselves. They work days and attended class virtually. If they ran out of resources for their schooling, they worked harder and saved. They had visions for themselves.

You are right, I believe in that fact that we are the ones who determine our destiny and fate, many millionaires have risen from poor families like The Gates

It is good to earn your own money for your education. That is what I did.
