Did you pass your drivers license road test on your first try?

Sadly, it was traumatic for me the first time I took my drivers test and I was very nervous so I failed. I was devastated. I didn't realize at the time that many do fail the fist time. I didn't actually get an opportunity to take it again for another few years. However, fortunately the test went smoothly the next time. I suppose some people may need more than one or two tries to pass. It really depends on how much practice you get beforehand I think, and being able to control your nerves.

I passed on the first try but my grandfather taught me to drive when I was about 14 (shhh don't tell). By the time I took my test I was comfortable behind the wheel.

I hadn't had too much practice beforehand. I had been planning to take Drivers Ed. roadwork at school, but I broke my wrist before I could take it. That was a bad deal. I am sure I would have passed if I could have taken that, and probably have been a better life long driver! It was a handicap not having my license until I graduated from college.

@snowy22315 I think getting your license young gives you more confidence. Three of my kids took driver's ed and they're confident drivers. My middle daughter refused to take driver's ed and didn't learn to drive I til she was way into her 20s She isn't a confident driver even now and she's 50.

@Marilynda1225 Yes, it also helps you qualify for lower insurance rates at least initially.

What will you do, if something happens to your husband? You might have to move to a city where they have Uber or other transport.

@LadyDuck It will be hard to get your groceries. Maybe you will have to order online.

Being a girl, it wasn't unheard of to fail on the first attempt.
When I was called to go up for the test, I looked at my Dad, and murmured to him to wish me luck.
He was quick to reply quietly that I didn't need luck, I needed a drivers license, and that put me in a good mindset and I passed.

@Juliaacv Yes, I am a bit more like my dad in temperament, although when stressed unfortunately, I am a bit more like my mom. They were our role models after all

That is good. I might well have passed if someone had instilled me with confidence like your dad did. All my mother did was critcize me after I failed and was very rude. She lacks a sensitivity chip sometimes. I don't know what gets into her.

@snowy22315 My Dad was the voice of wisdom for most of my life, my mother on the other hand, she was cut from the same cloth as y ours was, she had a sharp tongue too.
It taught me how to be patient and a little more positive and easy-going.

Yes, I passed it the first time. I scored perfectly on the written part but only passed the driving part by the skin of my teeth. (I've never liked parallel parking and do anything I can to keep from doing it even now.)

Thank God they didn't make you parallel park on the test in my state...I'd probably still be taking the bus..

@DaddyEvil Yeah, and the other thing is you can knock your hubcap off which is a pain. In the city of Charlottesville Virginia...the parking people go around with a measuring stick to see whether you are close enough to the curb or not. That always terrifies me. So far I have managed not to get a ticket though! Probably because I don't go there very much..

@snowy22315 I'm always too far away from the curb. The guy giving the test let me try three times and just shook his head when I couldn't get close enough to suit him. I'm afraid I'll damage my tires and those are expensive. *sigh*

Everybody is anxious when they start driving, they just work through it, and become accustomed to a vehicle. I hope you change your mind. It would be an accomplishment to be proud of.

@Courtlynn It isn't as necessary if you live in an area where there is reliable public transport. It does give you independence and freedom though.

@snowy22315 i know many who have never driven whether because of anxiety or just not wanting to. I'm both. Never cared for it. So not missing out on anything.

I passed it on the first try! but it was weird because I aced the written test and in my city they make you do a simulator that's pretty much like a racing game and it's not accurrate to how real driving actually is, I didin't pass that one but they still gave me my license on that same day. I'm a good driver tho it's just worrying that I know they just hand the licenses out to everyone.
Maybe the people were in a good mood lol

The written test wasn't a problem, but you have to pass that in order to get a permit. The road test was another matter.

I attended the driver license test 4 years ago,but i failed. Because my family is too poor,i couldn't pass the test.If i passed,my psychotic parents would buy me a broken car. Then i'd meet the Car accident, then my family would go bankrupt for paying the indemnity. So i deliberately failed. The poor family makes me don't have too many choices in the life.I have to learn what to give up.

@snowy22315 It makes a difference how experienced they are. Here, they now have to log book which says how much they've travelled. They also have to do x hours on gravel road and at night. And still they manage to kill themselves.
