Happy December! Just 25 more days until JJ can come out of his Grinch hole! Until then, it’s time to dream about warm weather and cruising to the islands. @JoyDorsey does that all the time, so that’s why this countdown of songs with “island” in the title is dedicated to her.
#5: Island - Gerry Rafferty
(Fair warning: not the only song you’ll see with that title on this list )
Remember that “Hot Sax” countdown, where Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street,” with a sax solo by Raphael Ravenscroft, was at #1? Well, here they are again….just not at #1.
Same album, though.
I absolutely love this album. If you gave me ten albums to take to a deserted island, City to City would be one of them. This album is almost 44 years old (released in January 1978), and it’s held sway over me all that time.
No, Ravenscroft’s sax here isn’t as iconic as “Baker Street,” but it’s plenty good. And this song is plenty great. And this album is plenty memorable.

It still has the "Baker Street" feel to it!
